“A Magical Place”

incredible sculpture/earthwork - great for a meditative afternoon or morning. We enjoyed walking though the work and the surrounding area. There is an interesting collection of quarry tools in the visitor center.

“Been on our to do list for years”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

we finally got there. Fasanating feat of stonework over 37 years. Saw the into movie that sdaid that with proper care, the stonework should last 1000 years. Then went to the dies, where a section was closed because the stonework had colapased.

An amazing feat of work and done by one person - incredable. More than a bit buggy the day were were there, which reduced our visit.

“My friend was right”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

A friend of ours worked at Opus 40 back in the mid '70s. When he heard we would be in this area of New York state, he urged us not to miss this. He was right. One man, Harvey Fite, hand laid tons of bluestone into an old quarry he had purchased, and made the most incredible set of stairs, pools and walkways over a time period of almost 40 years. It must be seen and walked upon to fully appreciate the vision and work that went into this structure. Highly recommend it for anyone who is visiting in the area of the eastern Catskills.

“Amazing”

This is a must see. You cannot believe what this guy did with a pile of rocks. If you like bluestone and stone work, you have to see this.
