“Old with a touch of modern”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

My wife and I were celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary, but we wanted to stay local this year. I told my wife I wanted to be surprised so I had absolutely no idea where we were going. When she told me to drive to Saugerties, I thought 'Saugerties'? I had never seen nor heard of the Renwick Clifton House B&B, but I was pleasantly surprised when we got there. The house, dating from 1812, has been exquisitely restored. Whether the furnishings are antique or reproductions, you cannot help but be wowed by the look of this house. As a continuing student of history, I was fascinated and amazed by this house. We stayed in the Mary Powell room which had an expansive view of the 5 acres of land and the Hudson beyond. The room was spotless, comfy and elegantly done. The bath has the modern touches of a hot tub and a double shower while the bedroom has antique furniture, including a big, comfortable bed. (Rather than being snobbish about the size of the room, we realize this is an old house and not a hotel.) There was wine and cheese in the afternoon (we weren't here for dinner) and breakfast in the morning, which was quite memorable (scones, strawberries, and eggs Benedict with salmon). In the Spring and Summer, you can have breakfast on the back porch, or sit and sip a glass of wine. The difference between 'good' and 'great' is the attention to detail and the owners have gotten it right. They were welcoming, warm and friendly and very knowledgeable about the house and the Saugerties area. This is a definite 'recommend' to all my friends and family. I look forward to returning here when it is warmer to take advantage of that porch.

The house is beautiful with amazing views of the Hudson River. It's immaculate and the furnishings are exquisite. Our room was clean, cozy and tastefully done. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets soft. The breakfast was memorable; homemade scones, fresh fruit, thick French toast with warm apples and whipped cream, scrambled eggs and bacon. Ended with lemon sorbet. In the evening wine, cheese and assorted meats were available as was sherry. The hosts were hospitable and lovely making a wonderful suggestion to dine at Miss Lucy's. The feeling in the house was relaxing and rejuvenating. We're already planning our next visit.

Friends recommended this place to me, now they will have to fight me for a room in the future! What a great place, I felt safe, comfortable and right at home here. Food was great, house was well kept, and the owners were wonderful. Looking forward to next year!

Room Tip: The Mary Powell had a great river view!

We spent a wonderful weekend at Renwick Clifton House. The hosts made us feel very welcome. Even with all the rooms full, we had plenty of privacy. The back porch has spectacular views of the Hudson River with plenty of seating and heating lamps for cool nights. Wine in the evening and snacks/coffee/water in the dining room were a nice touch. When we arrived we were told to "use the house as our own" and we felt very comfortable watching a baseball game in the cozy library. Breakfast was excellent! We truly enjoyed relaxing on the porch with coffee, good food and a heavenly view!

This trip to the Renwick Clifton B&B was our 6th visit in the past 7 years, and we took along dear friends of ours. They were instantly impressed and it took no time at all for them to understand why we keep coming back to the best little Bed & Breakfast in the Hudson Valley, maybe even the state! Miriam and Eric (our hosts) are 2 of the nicest people you could ever meet. They make you feel right at home in their beautifully restored victorian mansion. It's warm and inviting, it's quiet and relaxing. Breakfast is a 4 course delight, and should you have any dietary needs, they will be met. There is every amenity for a lovely weekend, no detail too small, walking distance from quaint little boutiques and excellent restaurants.....we cant imagine why anyone would stay anywhere else. And of course, we'll be back for our 7th visit, again this year, for fall foliage. In my estimation, that is when Saugerties is the most beautiful. Not much beats autumn in NY. This is Taline Gebbia saying if you need to recharge the batteries in your soul, come the Renwick Clifton House, put your feet, take a deep breath and exhale.....the rest comes naturally in this lovely little pocket of heaven on earth. :)

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, the Clermont does not have a Hudson river view, I've stayed in every r...

Great old home from 1812 with modern luxury updates! The hosts of the B&B are warm, inviting, and make a decadent 4 course breakfast. The winter wonderland views from the house are stunning and the town of Saugerties has charming shops and restaurants. Overall, a great location for a NYC weekend getaway, especially for couples or small groups.

Room Tip: I would suggest the Mary Powell room which comes with a two-person jacuzzi and double shower. It'...

Our group of three couples stayed here recently after attending a nearby convention -- something we do almost every year -- and almost always in a distinguished B&B. We chose this one this year because of its good TA reviews, and its proximity to the Hudson Valley attractions in the Hyde Park area ..... and we were not disappointed.

Our room (Livingston) was of average size and decor compared to other B&B's we have stayed in, with a nice view of the river. Bathroom looked recently renovated, with a great corner shower set-up. Good Wifi connection.

There was a fabulous view from a very attractive and spacious deck on the back of the building -- really sorry that we were not able to spend more time on it. Was a bit rainy and cool part of our time there ...... although half of it is under cover though.

Miriam attended to all our needs, in the absence of her husband on OOT business that week. And then there's the breakfast -- WOW, it was splendid -- perhaps the best that we as a group had ever had during our post-convention outings. See attached picture of one of them.

Would go back in a heartbeat!
