Just returned from a stay at the Gideon Putnam. Hesitant to make a reservation based on some negative reviews, but glad I did. The hotel is rich in character and everyone we encountered was friendly and accommodating. There were weddings when we were there but they truly were not intrusive and we heard no disruptions. The shuttle was great, parked my car on arrival and it never moved. The bike rentals were fun to explore the park. Checked out the Victorian Pool, which is a short walk behind the hotel, it was so pretty, stately and from a bygone era. Ate at the hotel restaurant, the food was very good, the hostess friendly but the wait staff were present but not on the ball with taking orders. We had to wait quite long to get our orders taken. This was for dinner, breakfast was much better. The rooms were quiet, and yes, it is an old hotel, but so charming. My only other complaint was that when I called to make the reservation, the operators were friendly but did not seem to know all the information regarding the hotel. I called originally and was told there were no bikes and I would have to arrange for the shuttle NOW. I called back two weeks later and was told there Were bikes and that yes, the shuttle was available. I just wish the reservationists all were on the same page. I was also told the pool was not opened yet, but when I got there it was open. Other than that it was a pleasant experience and I cannot wait to return.
