“If you like extreme noise, then book the Downtowner.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

My wife and I stayed in the Saratoga Downtowner Motel April 30-May 2, 2013. We had read the reviews based on cost and location while ignoring numerous reviews about noise and the homeless who loiter around this Motel. In terms of the noise, the management of the Motel make efforts by placing various signs on doors and walls that "noise" must be curtailed by 10pm. Of course, those signs appear on an 8x11 page in 12 point font. Most patrons seem to ignore these signs. Furthermore, patron's inconsideration and bad behavior are paramount in this Motel. The acoustics of the inner building echoes and also amplifies conversations across the motel. Folks weren't yelling, but normal conversations are amplified. In addition, doors slam shut rather than closing quietly. In my 60 years, this is the worst Motel that I have frequented.

It is 4:52am as I lay awake listening to party goers next door as I have been since 2:30am. Room is very dated, clean but in need of renovating and the bed is hard. The front desk staff were pleasant. The location is great for a visit to downtown Saratoga. If you are thinking of sleep or a a fun getaway with a family and kids don't stay here

The location is central and within a short drive or even a walk of most of Saratoga Springs' attractions. Various interesting restaurants are literally "across the street". The large indoor pool is great for young children though the noise level is loud and sound reverberates. The rooms are basic and look tired -- our bathroom door was swollen and didn't shut; there was rust on the facets. "Continental breakfast" had nothing healthy but again, saving as much as one does staying here, one can afford breakfast out. A good place for children and people on a budget who are merely looking for a place that is "safe, clean and centrally located.

Location is amazing and the staff is nice. The rooms are clean. Due to the close proximity to the town you can hear street noise, construction and people on the street but that is to be expected. I didn't get to use the pool because I forgot my suit and I didn't get to try the included breakfast because I was in a hurry to walk around town.

For the price, you can't beat the Downtower. The staff and owner were friendly and helpful, room is spotless and comfortable. When I checked in, the clerk was really helpful and gave me a variety of restaurant recommendations. The owner moved his car so that I could park in a larger space--where else would that happen? Their morning coffee is excellent, and the continental breakfast is pretty good.

Ask for a second floor room, facing Broadway. If you're on the first floor and facing the garage, you're going to wake up with the local traffic. It's beyond the control of the owner that there's a parking garage behind the property and the people walking to the garage can be loud late in the evening or early in the morning. The view from the front rooms is very nice and probably quieter.

I would absolutely stay here again. Winter rates can be as low as $59/night if you use the coupon rate from the circular that can be picked up at visitors' stops and Thruway rest areas.

Room Tip: As for the 2nd floor, Broadway facing room.

My wife and I stayed at the Saratoga Downtowner on March 15th and 16th St Patrick's Day Weekend. We chose the Motel based on price and location. Bear in mind it was offseason so I'm sure that was part of the reason the rate was good. The front desk staff were very accommodating. The indoor pool was only 4' deep and a little narrow but is great to just relax in. The room was clean and smelled fresh. I would reccommend asking for a room with an outside window if you like fresh air. Our room only had a window in the bathroom. Their parking is limited but there is a parking garage behind the motel and it only takes a minute to walk to your room after you bring up your luggage. There are an endless number of places within walking distance to eat and drink. Saratoga Performing Arts and The racetrack are also nearby. They also stress quiet after 10:00 PM so you can sleep well. I will stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the street side with a window.
