“Don't do it!”

This place is a MOTEL at it's worst. Do not be deceived by the pics of the pool. What a joke! Rooms are old, dated, dingy. Would not go back ever.

Our website does an excellent job showing what the Downtowner looks like and how this family-run business is operated. This pictures were taken by me and, in fact, are actual, real pictures of the pool, guest rooms, and common areas. Therefore, it is our position that there's nothing to be deceived by, except this review. It all comes very clean, with a great location and friendly, helpful staff. Stop in and say hello. We'll be glad to show you around.

Modest hotel with a great location in the heart of Saratoga's shopping and dining area. Most people will be able to get around downtown on foot. The rooms are basic but the price can't be beat. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast is modest - basically pastries and beverages but tasty. The pool is closed for the indefinite future, not because of health concerns but because of NY state regulations regarding the size of the deck. Parking is limited on site but there are municipal lots adjacent. Try the kettle corn!

After reading other reviews on TripAdvisor, I was keen to try the Downtowner. Overall, it was adequate, but definitely could use a few improvements.

Pros: Convenient to just about everything. You can walk to most of the stores and restaurants in a minute or two.

Friendly and helpful staff.

Very affordable.

Cons: The swimming pool is indefinitely closed.

Parking was difficult, as the lot was quite small.

The beds are noisy, as they are all covered in plastic and vinyl to protect them from bedbugs. This also makes them very hot and not breathable.

The continental breakfast was only pastries, oranges, and coffee & tea. No cereal, milk or other fruits.

We are grateful that you gave the Downtowner a try and greatly appreciate the recommendation. We are pleased to let you and all know that the pool has reopened, and we are now including fruit with the continental breakfast. In regard to the bed covers, we simply wanted to provide some additional info so readers of the review aren't left with the impression of a "homemade remedy." These bed covers used are common place within the hospitality industry these days and serve as great protection and prevention. These are a commercial product and are designed as very breathable. We look forward to hosting you on your next visit to Saratoga Springs.

Pleasant Stay, No issues, super location of Motel (notice I did not say Hotel, this is a Motel). Rooms are efficient in size, big enough for what is needed, to sleep, change, shower. If you want something more, there are Hotels not far. If you are looking to stay downtown in a friendly place, with exactly what you are paying for, then then this is the place to stay. No bells and whistles, you don't need it.. There are signs stating WHY the pool is closed, (also was explained when I checked in about the pool, and when I called to make the reservation, just in case I wanted a place with a pool I guess) it has nothing to do with a health issue as the one reviewer stated. However, It is understandable someone would be upset if there was trash in their room, that is an issue with housekeeping.. After reading all the positive reviews, and seeing only a few negatives, I have to say I am on the side of the positive. I personally did not see any negatives after my stay, and I am a picky traveler. You get what you pay for. With this pleasant little place, I feel I received even more. You can't bet the value, location, friendliness, etc.

This was the dirtiest Motel/Hotel I have ever stayed in. While looking for a plug to set up my phone charger I had to pull out the dresser and nightstand a bit only to be horrified more by the unclean conditions.,,dirt, garbage...empty soda cans...dead mosquitos. The shower was inoperable the comforters worn and unpleasant. This hotel is in a fantastic location as far as ease of going places. The owners need to do some serious updating and cleaning. I wondered if they ever stayed in their own hotel overnight. Also...if you are desperate and have to stay because all is booked in town do not have your room on the street side. You will be up all night from the sounds of music coming from the tavern located directly across the street. Inside the hotel room was a sign that mentioned a fine for smoking however the entire room smelled like smoke. When I returned home my clothes smelled like smoke. The only pleasant part of my stay was check in. The staff seemed very nice.

I checked into this hotel for just one night when I was part of a local conference. I thought it was going to snow, and rather than drive back to Amsterdam to stay with family I grabbed a room here for a great price. It was clean, comfortable, and the staff was SO friendly and accommodating! The wireless was great, I didn't feel any plastic thing on the mattress like other reviewers have mentioned. The pool was out of service, but that didn't bother me, and the little foyer where it was was still nice and ambient. The complimentary breakfast and coffee were also good.

This place is also close to literally everything- right in the center of downtown, don't have to walk far for anything at all.
Great value- I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

The Saratoga Downtowner was a great choice when visiting my sister in Saratoga Springs. We arrived a day late and the staff was very accomodating. The room was clean and looked out on the indoor pool. Breakfast was filling and varied for a continental breakfast. The hotel is located right in the middle of downtown. We walked to restaurants, coffee shops, and various cute stores in town.
