Decided we wanted Mexican food on a circuitous route home from a VT ski outing and found this place on Google. It was rated the best of the Mexican restaurants in the Saratoga area. We visited early on a cold, snowy Sunday evening; there were half a dozen cars in the parking lot, one large party at tables pushed together in the middle of the restaurant and a couple of the booths along the wall were taken. The place consists of a large open room with an adjacent bar. Skimpy decorations and not much ambience - we were there for the FOOD, though, having not eaten since breakfast. We were seated immediately, brought the usual chips and salsa, which were fresh and tasty, and our drink orders taken for one N/A beer and a Mexican beer. They were all out of the N/A. Okay - chose something else... Menu selections seemed skimpy - tacos, enchiladas, flautas, quesadillas - few of the usual entrees we see at authentic Mexican places. Placed our dinner order and waited a reasonable length of time. Service was friendly and reasonably efficient. Significant Other chose Mexican tacos - two steak and one chicken and said they were "kind of bland". My chicken flautas were just plain chicken wrapped and deep fried inside flour tortillas over which some queso fresco was drizzled. The chicken tasted gamy (probably thigh meat) and seemed lacking in any kind of seasoning whatsoever. It was fairly tender and there was plenty of it, but it was quite tasteless otherwise. We both made liberal use of the bottle of Cholula Chili Lime sauce on the table. Entrees were accompanied by the ubiquitous rice, refried beans and a little scoop of similarly bland guacamole on a few shreds of iceberg lettuce - nothing special there either. Our bill came to about $48 for three beers and two entrees. We left feeling full, but unfulfilled. Our bill came with a coupon for $10 off our next visit, but I doubt that we'll return. We've gotten spoiled by a couple of really good and very authentic Mexican restaurants in Albany.
I wish I could rate this place 2 1/2 stars because it wasn't really "Poor", but don't feel comfortable giving it 3 stars either. Maybe we just hit it on a bad night.
