Book your table for the day, then enjoy a great afternoon at one the best horse tracks in the country.
Some of the tables have better views than others of the finish line and some are a lot close to the betting windows. We weren't near either but it didn't matter. We had a great afternoon of drinks, food, racing, and fun. We were fine getting up to walk around to bet and catch the races which of course was a great way for my wife to show off her new hat. if you're ok with that, then The Porch is a nice spot to have as a base,
The food was good for where it was. My lobster roll was well made and flavorful. My wife's salad was fresh and also flavorful. But, let's face it, you're going for the drinks. Our waiter brought them promptly and the price wasn't outrageous. For two of us the bill came to $170, before tip. For that we had a table for 6 hours, two meals, and a nice relaxed feeling after drinks.
Service until the end was attentive. There was a problem with our bill, not caused by our waiter. But, it seemed to take 30 minutes to get it sorted. Didn't ruin the experience, but next time I know to ask for our bill two races before we're ready to leave.
You can wait standby for a table, but reservations are a really good idea.
