“A comfortable cozy stay for an excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2009

Okay, so I was a bit worried having seen some recent negative reviews. What we got was an older, recently renovated room that was impeccably clean and comfortable with upscale luxury linens and towels, exceptionally attentive and helpful innkeepers- a lovely and peaceful Adirondack venue for a reasonable rate that was conveniently located to the much pricier Lake Placid area as well as the all the high peaks and Adirondack lake region has to offer.
Having read the negative rants we did pack our own blow drier and our fave pillows, Thanks you for that clue but we generally would do that anyway. If you asked, I am sure the innkeepers would have found an extra pillow! The owners have fairly recently acquired the inn and are gradually updating it from a run-of-the-mill motor inn to a lovely upscale retreat. The lobby is warm and inviting with local fresh-roasted coffee brewing and a woodstove to warm by. There are lots of quaint little Adirondack style decorative touches and inviting seating areas about the property, not to mention a variety of water craft at the ready for no extra charge. Yes, there is a marina and boat slips partially obstructing the lakeview but the remaining view is gorgeous and the owners have provided plenty of convenient and inviting access. If you focus on the negative you will find areas in need of some updating, fresh paint and decorating. No, it is not the Crown Plaza but you are not paying the premium price and Gauthier's gives you a lot for the money, in a convenient location. We found ourselves frequently returning to our little retreat to escape the hubbub and crowds of Lake Placed. We loved our stay and I would definely go back on any future trip to the Lake Placed/Saranac Lake area.

This place is not worth the money they are charging. The parking is hit or miss - if you arrive late you will not be near your unit. The lighting in the rooms makes it impossible to read in bed and there are no hair dryers. For the same money or less there are several other places in the area which are more up to date some even with kitchenettes.

Rename this place "The Grim Inn." The rooms smelled like bad cologne --Is it Aqua Velva? -- and the walls are paper thin so you hear your neighbors ever so clearly. The advertised high speed internet is on the fritz. The TV gets lousy reception.

Arrived for two nights. First room was damp, 1960's/70's furniture and decor - very tired. On complaining was offered a " renovated room". Exactly the same as first - damp etc- but with slightly more modern bedding. I decided to leave and the owner refused to refund my money, offering one night only refund and pocketing the rest, despite being a Brit abroad having just served in Afghanistan so people like this owner can sleep soundly in their beds at night. I felt he was not "supporting the troops". So my advice is stay across the road at the Best Westerrn. Its cheaper and great quality. We left despite not getting our money back.

Recently my daughter gave birth when we were on vacation while we were staying at a camp in the Adirondacks. When the vacation rental was done, we needed a place to stay for 4 more nights. The hospital called Gauthiers and arranged for us to stay. We were greeted warmly and treated with care and respect...which was much appreciated at the time. The rooms are located next to a marina over looking the lake. It was a wonderful place to relax when we weren't at the hospital and needed quiet . The pool was clean and a great place to meet other motel patrons. We were greeted by several people who stay year after year at Gauthier's and we felt like they took us into their fold.
The two brother's ( and wife) were very understanding and were there to help us with anything we needed. Can't wait to go back!

I really don't know where the other reviews have come from because our experience was not a good one! Don't let their website fool you for 169 I we were expecting better. It is nothing like the pictures. The beds were comfortable and t the rooms were clean will give you that. There wasn't even a hairdryer in the bathroom and the TV very small with minimal towels. What a rip! Across the street there is a Best Western which we wanted to switch but couldn't as we pre booked and he knew it and was very biligerent. They were only charging $109 Canadian at par. What ever you do, don't go to this place!

I really don't know where the other reviews have come from because our experience was not a good one! This dump needs major updating since I felt as though we were in the 70's. Don't let their website fool you. It is nothing like the pictures. The first thing my kids said when they walked in the door was how it stunk like a old cottage. Our screen was missing from the patio door so we had to keep the door shut at all times. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and they only provided one flat pillow per person. There wasn't even a hairdryer in the bathroom and the four of us shared one towel. Oh, and there isn't a beach...only weeds and slim. Wow all this for $159 / night. What a rip! Across the street there is a Best Western which we wanted to switch but couldn't. They were only charging $109 Canadian at par. What ever you do, don't go to this place!
