We stayed here for four nights in October 2004 and enjoyed every aspect of our visit.
The innkeepers, Gene and Carmela, were really welcoming and helpful. They were not only happy to recommend places to eat, visit, hike and shop but also printed out directions for us, dug out rail timetables and generally did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The food was great. We had delicious fresh-cooked breakfast every day, and they even gave us a little pack of home-baked cookies and muffins for the journey when we left.
The house itself is very pretty (it's over 200 years old) and has been well looked-after. The good thing is that it it feels like a home rather than a museum. Our room was cosy, comfortable and clean with a good en-suite bathroom.
If you do stay here, check out Joey's Cafe in Washingtonville (5 mins drive away). We had some excellent home-cooked organic food there, and again the staff (in particular, Joey the proprietor) and customers were really friendly and welcoming.
