“A run-down family vacation spot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Although nice to look at, the camping facility is a bit run-down. The campground does not have an adequate number of wash houses for the number of campsites. What is there is not in good repair. They are in need of renovation. The boat area has a miniature golf course that is in ruins. Apparently the lake has algae blooms, and the beach looked like a mud hole. We did see some deer. And at about 4:30 am in the morning, we were awakened by our neighbor who shouted a crude form of "There's a bear" over and over again. Campers didn't seem to take seriously the parks admonitions to safeguard all food and refuse. Two black bears were attracted to the coolers and empty soda and beer cans. That was exciting!

“Red House Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

For some R and R, visit this lake, jump on a paddle boat and see nothing but nature and do a little fishing. We didn't catch anything, but still had an awesome time and the kids did too. Also visit the lodge that was built in 1928 that is on the back side of the lake and has a nice gift shop.

“Most beautiful park in the state”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Second largest state park in NY, 2 lakes, hiking, camping, scenery galore, both winter and summer. Great cross country skiing in winter, canoeing, swimming , hiking and camping, not to mention great picnic areas and summer programs. Check out the gorgeous administration building..gift shop, etc. Close to Salamanca and Casino, Ellicottville and restaurants. Really beautiful place to enjoy nature.
