“Nice view, that's it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

If you want to sit outside and have a few drinks, this is a good spot. Just drink and don't eat. Service is spotty depending on the server.

“Good but needs a little tuning up.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

Food is good...service is good. Just needs a little sprucing up...re:the bathrooms.
They are coed.....NOT a good thing. It smelled in the one I (a woman) was in and
the seat was not a good fit. Thank goodness it had a lock because there were two little
boys trying to get in........please Seaside Jonnie's.....put the restrooms back to MEN-WOMEN.
Also...the drinks are pretty pricey.....could we adjust that?????

“Very enjoyable...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

Got to see a terrifically bad rain storm and two full rainbows. And we had a very good meal.

Let's get the downsides out of the way - prices are high. Quite high, considering the drinks come in plastic cups. $12. for a drink? I complain about $12. martinis in fancy, schmancy places. Meal prices are high too, equally good seafood can be had at Artie's in City Island for less.

But hey, this is Rye, unnerstan? So, given that, the atmosphere was fun, the service outstanding, the parking FREE, and the surroundings? Great, just great. A bath house built in 1909 that the very rich in Rye SHOULD restore before it crumbles to the ground*, and an eatery right on the beach. How can you beat that? You can't.

True, we couldn't eat outside - some did and got caught in the aforementioned very bad rainstorm - but no matter. The drinks were good (I wonder why the very high price, though?), and the clam appetizer was excellent. Very fresh, as hoped for. Again, service was friendly and quick.

The coconut shrimp appetizer was also very good, and the broiled seafood platter was deemed very good. The fish, again, was very fresh. Tin can scallops? That poster needs to go back, the scallops were like butter. The fries that went with the meal were scrumptious, too, you know the kind that are coated in cracker crumbs to give them an extra crunch? Very tasty.

Oh, and they give you - free, not like Ripe, are they still open? - garlic bread almost the minute you sit down, how great is that?

Come on, even with the high prices, how can you not go to Seaside Johnnie's? Name me another seafood place in Westchester that isn't either snooty (what was that place in Portchester in a quonset hut that had airs it didn't deserve and is now closed?) or ... well, never mind, there isn't another seafood place in Westchester that I would recommend.

So anyway, go to Seaside Johnnie's and don't forget to marvel at the Bath House built in 1909.

*Hmmmm, there is an article on lohud from 2009 that claims The Spanish mission-style pavilion at Rye Town Park was to be restored. Was it? It doesn't look like it to me.

“Weather wasn't great but food was....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

Dropped in a Friday night and found a nearly empty restaurant as it had rained most of the day. Wife & I took a nice table on the outside patio and enjoyed a nice dinner surrounded by only a few other diners. Drinks were good and the fried clam strips were perfect! Looking forward to returning on a nicer evening.

“BEST View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012 via mobile

One of the few places in the area where you sit up from a sand beach watching the tide come. Kids playing, live music, sometimes even fireworks at the nearbye Rye Playland. It's a summer pleasure for us! Food's pretty good usually, and we're never sorry we came.
