I highly recommend this motel. The rooms are so cozy with wonderful art work. The staff is so nice. They make you feel at home. The owner Greg is so accommodating, polite, cheerful, and all around thoughtful. We went with 12 people total and everyone gives this motel an A+++. We will definitely be back.

This is the first review I have written but I really wanted to share what a fabulous place this is. Myself, my husband and two sons (4 and 6) stayed here whilst driving from Boston to NYC. We happened to end up in our incredible space themed room on the night Sandy hit and the owners and staff were amazing. As soon as we lost power they braved the wind and rain to bring us a huge supply of torches and cookies for the boys and assured us if it was really bad we could stay as long as we needed with them and share their supplies - they would not hear of us paying anything for this. Fortunately they were not hit too badly and even managed to have breakfast (which is also fabulous) ready in the morning - one member of staff had driven to her home to fill lots of flasks with hot water so we could have tea and coffee. once the power was on we took full advantage of the hot tub in the shimmer spa and the boys spend hours in our four person bath tub (with glow in the dark tiles!). As other reviewers will say the decor is astounding (and beautifully finished) - a dream place for kids and fabulous fun for adults but above all of that they are some of the nicest people we have met while traveling - don't hesitate to book.

Room Tip: The themed suites are worth the extra money - we saw several of them and they were all fantastic. Fo...

It's hard to describe this place in words, it's complete insanity the way this hotel is decorated. The first time we stayed there my kids were very young and the owners had just opened this place up. I think we stayed in the Austin Powers room.... so much fun. The owners sat with everyone in the hotel for cheese and wine in the afternoon and all I could think was" These guys are out of their minds for putting this hotel up in the middle of nowhere". I was dead wrong. I came back last year and could not believe how vibrant the town of Roxbury is. The hotel has expanded with the addition of new buildings all having tastefully decorated theme type rooms. A true Gem in the Catskills. You have a fun nine hole golf course right in town and the Hanna right down the road. In winter you have very easy access to Plattekill and Belleayre ski mountains.

My partner and i went for 2 nights (b/c we couldn't get a third night since it was booked) after Christmas and were absolutely DELIGHTED by our stay! in addition to it being a "winter wonderland" due to the recent snowfall they had in the catskills, we were thrilled by the rooms--completely contemporary and wildly CREATIVE! we stayed in "fred's lair" our first night and it felt like we were staying in a broadway set (totally felt like we were staying in a modern cave!). the 2nd night was a kitchenette, which we loved equally--completely modern and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes (with a little more space in both the room and bathroom)! they were both AWESOME rooms...and the attention to details was incredible!! the owners truly thought of everything in the rooms in hopes of creating an enjoyable stay...finally, we met the one owner during breakfast who was fantastic!! we were so impressed with his excitement and enthusiasm for the place, as well as his warmth and engagement. we are DEFINITELY returning...hopefully sooner than later!! 5 stars to the roxbury motel!!

Room Tip: if going during a busy time, make sure to make dinner reservations at the "Public" restaur...

What an amazing time we had at the Roxbury. First of all, Fred's Lair is exquisitely designed from the bed covered with furs and leathers, to the pebbles on the floor and walls at the entrance, to the awesome cave-like walls, to the dinosaur head mounted up high. We also loved the cookies and cucumber water always waiting in the office, and the delicious breakfast cornucopia available in the mornings. The staff was accommodating and gracious -- we wished we could have stayed longer. The Roxbury is a do-not-miss experience.

PS - For picky people like me, the beds are actually really comfortable, the water pressure is excellent, and everything was *very* clean.

The Digs at the Roxbury is Exquisite

We first heard of the Roxbury Motel when it was pictured on the front cover and was included in an article of an issue of AAA Car and Travel magazine. As a result of that article, my husband and I started to go there in the spring of 2011. We have been going there about once a month ever since.

Several years ago, the owners bought an old motel in the Northern Catskills of New York State and did a great job renovating it with theme rooms. Since then, they have built a new addition with extraordinary, luxurious theme rooms. To get an idea of what all of these rooms are like and to view them, go to theroxburymotel.com. You are in for a delightful surprise.

Recently they have opened another addition which is a stand alone cottage with three beautiful bedrooms and two baths. There is a gorgeous living room with a bar area. Also, there is a complete gourmet kitchen and it even has the dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, and even the spices that could be used for the guests to prepare a wonderful dinner party. In warm weather, be sure to use the outdoor shower and at night peer through your bedroom door and see the ever changing colors on a bust of Caesar. There is a huge salt water fish tank that has extends along a wall in the indoor shower and another side is visible from the living room. The tank contains colorful fish from the Red Sea. The outdoor lights are just beautiful as their colors change on the branches of the trees that are lined along the babbling East Branch of the Delaware River that extends along the property. The lighting inside the cottage is also a delight to behold.

Yes, when you think of The Digs, think of archeology, whips, a rolling boulder, Cleopatra's sarcophagus, a library, Romans, and maps. Yes, The Digs does have a theme. Have you guessed it?

I have written another very positive article in Trip Advisor about The Roxbury Motel prior to this before The Digs had opened. The Roxbury has been widely publicized in many different sources including: The Today Show, Travel + Leisure, Fodor's Choice Award 2011, National Geographic Traveler, and Conde Nast Traveler. The Digs is scheduled to be appearing soon on Animal Planet and HGTV.

We have traveled to many states of the U. S., Europe, Asia, and Africa and stayed in many wonderful hotels but have seen nothing to compare with The Digs. It is a spectacular eye-opener and not to be missed! It is special and must be lived in to really experience what is there, and there is a great deal there to see, to observe, to behold. It is so stunning, so beautiful and you will definitely experience that "WOW" factor more than once.

Go to The Roxbury Motel web site and check it out! You can also view its Facebook page, just search for "The Roxbury, Contemporary Catskill Lodging." Also, many kudos to the owners and staff of this first class establishment. They are what makes The Roxbury so special.

Room Tip: Their web site explains the rooms very well.

Just returned from a fantastic night at the Roxbury. We'll definitely be back! This is the perfect destination to escape--you can take advantage of the hiking, fishing and skiing in the area, or just lounge at the motel. Once we arrived, I didn't want to leave! The spa pass is a MUST--the facilities are fantastic and it's a great deal at $20 per person your the entire stay. "Spa hopping" is a fun experience. The rooms are inventive and fun. The staff was phenomenal and were gracious enough to give us a tour of some of the rooms (since it was midweek and off-season most were empty). Everywhere we looked we delighted in a new small detail--the snacks in the office, spa and meeting rooms, the pop art cartoons in the hallways, the plethora of sitting areas to relax and visit with friends, the dual shower heads, toiletries in the spa areas, the books in the relaxation room, the quality of the materials in the rooms (ceramic and glass tiles, memory foam mattresses, unique decor), the free streaming Netflix, board games and DVDs...I could go on and on. This motel is obviously a labor of love--no detail has been overlooked in the planning and execution of the rooms. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a girls' reunion weekend. The location is remote with no cell phone service (at least for our carrier) and restaurants are scarce (expect a drive unless the Public Lounge is open).

Room Tip: Rooms in the South wing are newer and seem to be a bit more "over the top" in themes. If...
