Okay this is probably one of the best vacations EVER! This is a 5 star in family fun but for a fancy weekend gettaway it is not the place to go. Since it's family safe I have more freedom without my mom worrying about where I am. The tavern is also kid friendly. It also has awesome entertainment with tennis, basketball, ping pong, volleyball You name it! The meals were home cooked which was yummyful! The room is small, but it isn't a problem. Some reviews say that the beds were uncomphy, but all and all we thought it was fine! And it is very clean place to stay. The staff made you feel at home! There are different events everynight that are fun for the whole family! There is a waterfall at the hotel you hike to it in swim in the river. But I suggest wearing water shoes, because it is slippery and you don't know what you are going to step on! My favorite part of the whole trip was sticking my head under the falls! :) This was the best vacation EVER!

Room Tip: Be on time for your meals, because the start to put away the food after 15 minutes!

I wanted to give 2 and a half stars, but that's not an option. The staff and food are 3 star (or a generous 4), the accomodations are strictly 2 star.
The first issue here is that this is not a B&B, and not truly an inn. It's really an old-style motel with a decent dining room and food. If you are used to quaint New England B&Bs or 3-4 star hotel chains, you *will* be disappointed with the accomodations here. The buildings and rooms are old (think more 1950s motel old than nineteenth-century inn old) with some scattershot updates. Our room had a new-looking sink, toilet and shower stall, but smelled strongly musty and had beds and bedding from some past decade (be warned that queen or king size beds are hard or impossible to come by, it's basically a choice of double or twins). We got a St. Patrick's Day gift basket containing a big bottle of Guiness, beer glasses, shot glasses and party hats (one of us doesn't drink, the other has a couple of glasses of wine per month), but the room had no shampoo and conditioner, hair dryer, coffee/coffee maker, ice bucket or wi-fi (apparently at guests' request, we were told). For the most part, the room was quite clean, but a pillow case and wash cloth were stained. Space was an issue. The room was so small that walking through with our suitcases was problematic and sitting anywhere other than the bed an impossibility (no space and no chairs). The bathroom counter space was so limited I practically had to balance things on my head while brushing my teeth and washing up for bed. As with many motels and hotels, including some very good ones, the walls were thin and we heard our neighbors make various unpleasant noises throughout the night. There's no temperature control in the rooms, and while we were comfortable, we heard other guests complain about being either too cold or too hot.
The food was basic and simple, but well-prepared, plentiful and a good value. We enjoyed the meals, although the Sunday brunch included a lot of leftovers from earlier in the weekend and was slightly disappointing. The pasta and meatballs dinner, roast chicken lunch and chocolate stout cake were all very good. The dining room also has wi-fi. There is a tavern on the premises, which if you drink, you may enjoy. We didn't go there at all, so I can't comment much on it. There was karaoke there our first night and a live band on our second night.
The owners and staff are friendly, and in general, very nice people. We enjoyed being around them and talking to them a little about the area. Be prepared to tip a lot. I have not tipped at B&Bs (which again this is not) usually, but here a lot of tipping is strongly recommended on the information sheets left in the rooms. This annoyed me a bit, to be honest. I'm not crazy about tipping as a system (although I would never take that out on innocent employees), especially in certain settings. Pay your hard-working staff a living wage, please, don't ask your customers (who are already paying hundreds of dollars for rooms and meals) to do that for you.
Depending on your interests, there may not be a lot for you to do in the area. There's plenty of good hiking, skiing in the winter and some cheesily nostalgic sight-seeing in nearby Woodstock. There are a couple small museums that are not open year-round or every day. Farther afield Howe Caverns is a nice day trip. There are small waterfalls on the property and the area has a lot of natural beauty. In the summer there's swimming and shuffleboard on the premises. Overall, the place has a bit of an old-fashioned summer camp feeling to it, and may be more suitable for families with young kids than couples or singles.
Check-in is early and check-out is late, which was very convenient for us.

Room has basic setting - neat, clean and warm.

If you are looking for a 5-star/classy weekend getaways, this is not the place to be.

However, this place is very enjoyable to those who appreciate personable services more than luxurious room decorations, enjoys a place close to nature (hiking trails, and falls), rather than cookie-cutter typical hotel settings.

Impressed that owners go all their way out to help - encountered one minor issue at night, and was being addressed immediately. Most importantly, you can tell they enjoy and are proud of what they do.

Healthy and hearty food.

It is also about 20 minutes drive from Windham mountain, not a bad choice as a base for ski.

Room Tip: The rooms that are close to glen falls has great water view, and nice deck. Suitable for large famil...

Visited the Glen Falls House with my husband over MLK weekend and we had such a blast!

As the House is normally a summer getaway place, they had a "soft opening" of the facilities for just a winter weekend getaway. Though we were told it was best to come back for the hiking, trails, and outdoors in warmer weather, we couldn't have had a better time. Everything was covered in snow and though quite chilly, they kept our weekend busy with snowtubing, campfires, and "grown-up" hot chocolate.

The staff is so pleasant and helpful; they really work hard to make you feel at home. They provide all the meals which is not only a great deal, but great for your tummy, too, as the food is delicious (very at-home Sunday dinner food) and plenty to go around.

The rooms/cabins are far from fancy, but everything you need. Warm beds, hot water, and clean bathrooms. Not for you if you're looking for a 4 star Ritz experience; definitely think your Grandma's cabin in the woods.

There is a small tavern across the street from the main house that hosts bands and an amazing karaoke DJ (DJ Victor Lara), who kept us dancing through the night despite the smaller winter crowd.

Would love to go back to this lovely oasis just a short drive outside NYC.

My boyfriend and I came up here for Valentine's weekend and had a blast! Sure the rooms were small and had a bit of musty odor but that was part of the old town, upstate experience. If you are expecting 5 star.....go to Manhattan. The food was really good, just like home. The Tavern was a good time if you are with the right people. We met some great couples who took advantage of the Tavern and the entertainment. The owners made you feel like family. If your looking for the "heart shaped tub".....go to the poconos. If you are looking for a winter get a way in the catskills and you have the "go with it" attitude, you will make some great memories. I would go back for sure!

My fiance and I came to Glen Falls House for Valentines day weekend. We had high hopes for a cute romantic getaway and were very let down. We had virtually the same experience as Lily T. The rooms are old, we did not have enough toilet paper, we had to share one towel. The bar across the street was majorly depressing, it was a sold out weekend and there was maybe 15 people in the bar. The entertainment was in a word... dreadful. It was a jazzish band trying to play Incubus and other popular songs while completely butchering every attempted song. The rooms were extremely cold with no way to warm up the room. There is also nothing to do besides mountain activities the towns are dead, with most of the stores closed. On a positive side the owners and bartender were extremely nice! Most of the meals were also very good, however, did not appear to be very healthy.
My fiance and I are not the type of people to complain, we make the best out of every situation but I will have to say the most fun we had this weekend was laughing about our experience.
