“GREAT COMFY PLACE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2008

We had a great time...the people who run this place really care about what they're doing, and it shows. You just can't beat a place that has a bar & fantastic restraurant right next to the rooms.Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. We found the rooms neat and clean and everything functioned. We like the low price basic room,so it fit us perfect.Thankyou Tommy and your excellent staff,Denny & Corky

Great meals at Rockland House restaurant -- delicious food, prepared well, huge fresh salad bar, and great service. I expected a comparable level of cleanliness and pride in the motel, but found quite the opposite. Rooms are a great deal, which is wonderful when you're not spending all that much time in them, but it's still preferable to return to a comfortable spot. We did not. The problems were as follows: terrible reception on a very dark and fuzzy television set (was a single cable signal split to too many rooms?), visibly stained and odorous sheets, a malfunctioning security light on the side of the building that cast a strobe-light effect through the room during the night (enough that it kept me awake), mysterious hairs on the (clean?) towels that were definitely not from our party, no doorknob on the door to the bathroom (which meant a whole lot of shoving and noise, bad news when travel companions are trying to sleep), and broken shower doors that fell down spontaneously during showers. I understand that you get what you pay for, but how much would a bottle of bleach, a new lightbulb, a couple of screws to secure the shower, or a simple door handle for the bathroom cost? The problems Rockland House motel has could be really easily and cheaply fixed -- it's a shame that there isn't anyone there with the will (or enough respect for guests) to do this. I'll be back again - but only for the restaurant.

This place is a utopia! Lets be honest, you are not going to find the Ritz in small town USA, but this place is the small town equivalent. With spacious and clean rooms, with large bathroom, tv and fridge.
But what sets this place apart is the people who run it, a room is a room its the service that makes the difference. Tommy and Marie are wonderful hosts and people, i feel more part of the family than a guest when i am there.

The restaurant is a gem too, and is always busy with both locals and out-of -towners, the prices are great for the large portions that you get. Plus the 'wing night on fridays' is incredibly popular (i miss those wings!!)

And the bar is both friendly and lively with a mix of camp counselors from the nearby summer camp - Timberlake West and locals like George, Mitch and more all interacting together in a fun and harmonious environment - put your money down on the dartboard or pool table.
The bar staff are great whether its Tommy and Marie or Chad and Lexi, all are always happy, smiling and ready with a drink!

I will definitely be back as soon as i can!

great cozy motel ...i have been staying at the rockland house the past 3 summers and not one complaint. This place has been renovated and is very comfortable... the best thing about this place for me was bar a fun time mostly because they have the best best bar keeper (tommy) that i have ever experienced. Tommy and his family are such great people that there could be noway you could walk away from there unhappy. I use to work at a camp down there and will not be this year, but still will be going back to the rockland house just to stay and visit the staff.

ps. the resturant in the rockland house is AMAZING with really good steak too. also if you want a good sandwich/sub go to "T-Bones sub shop" accross the street.

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING TOMMY!

We stayed at the Rockland House for a weekend this July, and had a great time! The rooms are clean, we didn't smell "mildew" or any other unpleasantness. Within walking distance there is a great restaurant (try the ribs!!) that had a fresh salad bar and GIANT portions. Everyone in our party took home a doggie bag, and the staff was more than welcome to help us navigate the great little town of Roscoe. (Definitely spend some time on Main Street--- small town USA all the way!)

The nights run late at the bar, and if you're a light sleeper we recommend ear plugs or sleeping far away from the door, because when those kids party, they get pretty rowdie. We stayed out and listened to a decent local band and enjoyed the local crowd at the bar.

We'll definitely come back, hopefully when the fishing is better (the water was low and the fish seemed to take a vacation, too)!

The place wasn't bad for the exception of all the bar fights that kept us up all night long. People were screaming and yelling, a very unfriendly atmosphere for children. It would be a great place if you were single and like a bar atmosphere. The rooms were clean and nice, but the surroundings were not pleasant. We will not go back there to stay.

We have stayed at the Rockland house for years. We appreciate the kindness of Tom and his family. They always welcome us with open arms. They are on the banks of the Beaverkill which my husband fishs daily.Their restaurant is delicious. They give you alot of food for the money. The hotel room needs to be upgraded. We love Ralph in the fly shop along with his friend Al.They give my husband many flyfishing tips. And educate us to the area's happenings. We will continue to go there as many times a year as we can.It is the most reasonable hotel in the Roscoe area. And we love the privacy we are given. We look forward to our next visit.
