“One night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2014

I stayed here for a night to attend my girlfriend's 50th birthday celebration. It was a 4hr drive from New Jersey. Upon arrival (a Saturday) and check in, there was nothing special about checking in. Receptionist was average, no smile, no welcoming attitude.
Went to my room and saw that I had a view. View of a couple of other buildings and a highway. It was cool. The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean. Noise level was crazy as folks coming in from partying was loud and being silly while others were trying to sleep. The sounds really carry from the hallway to your room. I have stayed in much better places, but for one night, it was ok.Parking is also available on site and there is wi-fi in the rooms but very weak.

Room Tip: just make sure and ask for a room with a view.

The location in downtown Rochester near the Genesee River and Main Street is wonderful. You can get South to UR and RIT easily and get to Charlotte and Lake Ontario to the North.

The room rug was a bit shabby but the room was clean and the floor to ceiling windows had an awesome view. Did not use the pool or health club but was available.

The Sunday Brunch was disorganized and took longer to sit down than it should have. Seemed short-staffed for Memorial Day weekend. The State Street Grill ands Bistro was great for afternoon drinks.

The parking lot needs to be repaved. You could lose a bus in some of the potholes.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Checkout was easy and although we were charged for parking; the $5 unlimited entry per day was not unreasonable.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are large and sunny. West side rooms have less street noise and a better view.

This hotel is far from a 4 star. The rooms are small ( unless you are lucky enough to get a corner) the bathrooms are small and have outdated fixtures and the decor is outdated. The shower, however was enjoyable, despite the small tub. I was travelling for a girls getaway weekend.... The small bathroom was a problem with limited counter space. The first room we were put in was musty smelling and the bed appeared to be on a slant. The staff were very accommodating and threw in a room upgrade, bar fridge and parking to compensate. Overall the price was very high($199/night) for the type of accommodation.. And you need to pay additional for everything (parking, microwave/ fridge in room) there I is NOT a breakfast included. The pool is outdoors and although it was heated the pool was not open during my May visit. There is no hot tub on site. If it weren't for the accommodating staff I would rate this hotel as a poor experience.

Room Tip: Request a corner unit.. They are more spacious

I stayed at this hotel one night to attend a wedding. The ladies at the front desk were very pleasant, helpful and made for an easy and smooth check in. I had called previously with a room request and all was just as they'd promised. The room key was a little twitchy and took some a time of two but always worked. THe room was a nice size but dated. We had to fix the sheets on the bed, but it was comfortable and we slept well. The wedding was absolutely beautiful and done so well. The food was great, the servers were always smiling, polite, professional and delivered great service. The only real issue was the temperature of the room. It was freezing and many of us had to go back to the room to wear sweaters with our dresses. However, the bride was very happy with how everything went and guests had a great time.

This hotel has a decent location but definitely shows its age. Think worn out bathrooms, uninspired public spaces, a joke of a fitness center and a consistent theme of dark, dingy wallpaper. However, what prompted this review is the heating system. Which doesn't exist, apparently. I got to my room last night and it was 60 degrees in there, which is interesting since I always crank the heat when I check in. I called the front desk and was told the hotel was in "AC only mode" not "heat mode." So there was no way to turn the heat on--I was advised to turn off the heat, which would cause the room to warm up because the fan wouldn't blow cold air anymore. Since I didn't have 36 hours to wait, I switched rooms. My new room still felt cold but it was about 67 degrees. They don't have space heaters. Here's my takeaway for management: If outside temps are still cold then don't turn off the heat in the building, please. I used to love this quirky place but now; I just can't.

Stayed for 1 night in a room on the 6th floor that had ants in the bathroom and stained carpet. Walking in from the parking area, you're greeted with signs warning to remove everything of value from your car, which sets the tone. The front desk staff were very friendly. Walking from the front desk to the elevators was a little depressing. Dirty floor, outdated/old feel to the decor.

I'm glad we were only there for 1 night. I was just disappointed at the place for the price. The beds were comfortable, and made with white linens (which had some stains). The internet was not working for me. We only stayed 1 night and got in late so complaining to staff about ants, stains, and internet just wasn't a priority. They were friendly at check-in and check-out though!

First of all the location of this hotel is really great. Centrally located near to everything.
I had a river facing room which was good.
Otherwise the room is a little tired and mattress felt over-used, looked clean as far as I could see.
I didn't use any of the facilities or interact much with the staff.
