“Dissapointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2009

Visited on a Tuesday evenig so perhaps this is when the Cheff has his day off .

Not impressed by the food and having eaten in all sort s of resteraunts through europe it is certainly not what I would call European. Ordered a Fillet Mignon and got a poor quality steak, (certainly not fillet) serverd up with sliced mushrooms and no sauce. The acompanying vegitables d'jour - turned out to be carotts and sweetcorn fresh from the supermarket frozen food section. What was supposed to be wild brown rice was white rice with some pesto to disguise it.

Desert (which was supposed to be the house speciality) was also disapointing - the cheesecake was described as being served with fresh raspberry sauce - fresh out of the bottle more like!

“the best dessert in Rochester”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2008

Our family of six loves desserts, and we were thrilled to be able to return to Phillips not once, but twice, during our five day visit to Rochester. We lived in Rochester from 1997-2001, and despite our limited budget then, Phillips dessert was our monthly indulgence, either as takeout, or as a special "hot chocolate and dessert treat" with our two young children. The front counter display of 35-40 desserts is unforgettable...in fact, our eleven year old couldn't remember the restaurant, but as soon as he walked in, he remembered the display and immediately asked for the peanut butter chocolate torte, which had been his favorite. It was still as delicious as he had remembered. Our first visit was just for dessert and drinks, and did not disappoint. The Viennese strawberry meringue torte is still as light and delicous as I remember, and not too sweet. The carrot cake is moist and delicious, and does not have nuts. Anything chocolate will be delicious. Our second visit was for dinner and dessert, and it was also delicious. My veal marsala had a flavorful sauce, and the mushrooms and artichokes were tasty. My husband ordered the scallops with lemon sauce, which was also excellent. My son enjoyed his sesame shrimp, and our younger children enjoyed their "off-menu" grilled cheese and pasta. The service was wonderful. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Rochester.
