“" Exceptional delight"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

We drove up to Rochester today to visit the "Lilac festival" and after seeing all the sights we asked at the information booth for some recommendations for dinner. They all agreed that we should try Zeppa Bistro". I called just to see if we should make a reservation and was told we would be seated when we arrived. The restaurant is very inviting and we were seated as soon as we arrived. Both my husband and myself ordered specials for the night. My husband had the swordfish and the presentation was just beautiful as well as delicious. I ordered the steak(which was done to perfection) and the special macaroni and cheese which was excellent. (I brought 1/2 of my dinner home) We also ordered coffee and shared apple crisp with vanilla ice cream (which was delicious). Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable. As a matter of fact everyone was very friendly and courteous to us. The chefs did an incredible job with the food and we will definitely return for another awesome meal. Thank you.

“Expensive and disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We just came back from dinner at Zeppa Bistro. Our server was dull and not very responsive although there were only a few people in the place. Maybe it was because it was a Wednesday evening. I tried to order a skirt steak without french fries and the waiter almost insisted that I take them. He finally relented and substituted grilled vegetables.
There were four of us. Two of us ordered the skirt steak, one with fries and one without.
Neither one of us liked them
One ordered a special, Pompano, which she said was overcooked and too greasy.
The fourth ordered the pork schnitzel and lentil soup and liked both of them.
Three of us had the grilled Romano salad. Unfortunately they were not grilled.
It was an expensive disappointment. We will not go back.

“Great birthday dinner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We had a group of 6 on a Friday night. We made reservations. This is located under the German House, formerly known as the Keg or even before that Rohrbach's. They renovated the entire place- gray walls, exposed brick, tile floors, candlelight. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. Also, one of my friends has a gluten intolerance and they made sure she was taken care of. I had the Cod French (can't remember the name they used!) it was terrific. My husband had a steak and it was cooked perfectly. This is not a "quick" restaurant. They are making the food from scratch so the dinner comes at a leisurely pace for you to enjoy your company. Wine and beer list were extensive. The rolls are great too! Something for everyone.

“Looked forward to try....slightly disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We went to Zeppa Bistro yesterday evening and based on the reviews, we were excited to try it. First, we ordered drinks, and it took around 15 minutes...understand, since it was about 90% capacity. Then it took 25 minutes or so for the waiter to return for our order and to give us the specials. After the specials were shared, another long wait. We then put in our orders (4 of us), and it took over 90 minutes. My husband asked the person serving the bread (quite good, and one piece was given to each person initially), for more rolls since we were getting hungry and there was no food. Then someone other than our waiter stopped by (note: our waiter never came by during this 1.5 hour wait to say anything), and said our meals would be out soon. Finally, after another wait, food came. The gnocchi served with the duck breast were as hard as rocks, duck was good, but was a little cool. Others ordered the pork schnitzel, and thought it was food. One of the people who ordered it, wanted some lemon, but no one ever came back to check up on us.
All in all....service by waiter, and kitchen, and, I guess the manager, was way below par. Food was good, but not great. We go out quite often, and I'm not really sure we would go back.
