The Inn on Broadway is a charming, comfortable small hotel in the theatre district of downtown Rochester. We booked through an on-line service at the lowest rate offered, so did not expect to get a great room. Fortunately, we were mistaken. Our room was large, freshly and plushly decorated in a turn-of-the-century style appropriate to the age of the inn, but at the same time offered a modern bathroom with a huge steam shower. Our dinner at the hotel restaurant was excellent, if somewhat pricy. Service from everyone was cheerful and prompt. The complimentary breakfast was more imaginative that the usual continental spread, with lots of fresh fruit and miniature quiches in addition to cereal and danish. Only complaint? The water-saving toilet was absurdly noisy; it sounded like a loaded bookcase falling over. Using it at night unfailingly woke the room's other occupant.
The neighborhood around the Inn has several nightclubs and coffee houses with live jazz. As it was raining and cold, we did not do much exploring, but the Inn appears to be within an easy walk of several interesting art and nightlife areas.
