Owner description: Come over to play at the only museum in the world devoted solely to the importance of play. The museum blends the best features of both history museums (extensive collections and children’s museums (high interactivity). At 282,000 square feet, the National Museum of Play at The Strong is the largest regional year-round family attraction, and the second largest “children’s” museum in the nation. The museum takes play very seriously. Its philosophy—that play is essential to learning and human development—is reflected everywhere you look beginning with its uniquely whimsical architecture (including a butterfly house built to look like the world’s largest butterfly, an undulating two-story caterpillar-shaped atrium, and a structure resembling a pile of gigantic children’s building blocks). Engaging hands-on exhibits invite you to attend Super Powers School, meet the Berenstain Bears, play your way through the history of video games, enter a giant kaleidoscope, board a whaling ship, see the world’s oldest Monopoly games, step into Sesame Street, walk into the pages of a giant pop-up book, and so much more! The museum is home to the region’s only indoor butterfly garden; the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of dolls, toys, and games; and the prestigious National Toy Hall of Fame®. Amenities include a food court, indoor train and carousel, two museum shops, and an outdoor Discovery Garden.Admission Fees: General Admission (does not include admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden®):2 and older $13.50, Children under age 2 are free, Museum members free.Admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden: General Admission fee plus $3 for members, $4 for nonmembers; children under 2 free. Entry is by timed ticket only. Parking: Free parking is available at the museum for all guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that, on high visitation days, the museum lot may reach capacity early in the day. If space is not available on site at the time of your visit, additional parking is available at neighboring municipal garages for a fee. The Strong is not responsible for fees incurred at off-site locations.

“Great for kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2014

Museum continues to evolve. The butterfly exhibit is not to be missed. I wasn't going to pay the extra entrance fee but was glad I did. They take just small groups in and the butterflies land right on you. The kids loved it!! So did I. It's worth the extra fee. Guide also gives you a brief tour then you can explore on your own. They also give you a plastic photo guide so the kids can identify the different butterflies, plants, etc

“Amazing!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2014

We took my 20 month old granddaughter to this museum and were so impressed with what they had to offer! She loved everything about it, including the Sesame Street area, Wegman's, the train ride and the Carousel. We didn't get there until 3 PM and they closed at 5 PM, and we were busy every minute we were there, following her as she ran from one exhibit to another. We never got a chance to visit the 2nd floor to see what was there, and we definitely want to stop at the Butterfly Conservatory next time. I can say without a doubt we are going to be returning again and again whenever we visit my granddaughter in NY. We received a discounted (Matinee) price since we arrived so late in the day, but even the full price is fair considering everything you can see and do there. The place is immaculately clean, and there are various places to eat and rest if all the excitement makes you tired and hungry. Can't wait to go back!!!

“A Must-Stop in Rochester!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2014

The Strong National Museum of Play is a fantastic experience for the whole family. Prepare to spend at least three hours exploring the Strong's varied array of exhibits and attractions, both for young and old! Video games, simulators, butterfly conservatory, theater, and a labyrinth-like storyland of play including Sesame Street and Wegmans where kids can learn to shop, scan food items and pretend to "cash out" at one of the registers. There is also a musical carousel, burger joint, and food court when you done playing! We are so fortunate to have this gem here in the Flour City!

“Great for all ages!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2014

My grandchildren (ages 6 and 4) LOVE this place. Just as much fun for adults as well. Something for everyone. Crowds don't seem to be a problem, the museum holds them well. It can keep the kids busy from opening to closing. LOTS of hands-on exhibits and things to do. Can't be disappointed. Well worth the price of admission. Food court. Free coat room.

“Rochester Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2014

SMoP one of the best places for a young child to spend a day. Everything about the exhibits and "rooms" is top flight.
You cannot go with out going to butterfly's. If visiting you have to go - it is that good
