Owner description: Come over to play at the only museum in the world devoted solely to the importance of play. The museum blends the best features of both history museums (extensive collections and children’s museums (high interactivity). At 282,000 square feet, the National Museum of Play at The Strong is the largest regional year-round family attraction, and the second largest “children’s” museum in the nation. The museum takes play very seriously. Its philosophy—that play is essential to learning and human development—is reflected everywhere you look beginning with its uniquely whimsical architecture (including a butterfly house built to look like the world’s largest butterfly, an undulating two-story caterpillar-shaped atrium, and a structure resembling a pile of gigantic children’s building blocks). Engaging hands-on exhibits invite you to attend Super Powers School, meet the Berenstain Bears, play your way through the history of video games, enter a giant kaleidoscope, board a whaling ship, see the world’s oldest Monopoly games, step into Sesame Street, walk into the pages of a giant pop-up book, and so much more! The museum is home to the region’s only indoor butterfly garden; the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of dolls, toys, and games; and the prestigious National Toy Hall of Fame®. Amenities include a food court, indoor train and carousel, two museum shops, and an outdoor Discovery Garden.Admission Fees: General Admission (does not include admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden®):2 and older $13.50, Children under age 2 are free, Museum members free.Admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden: General Admission fee plus $3 for members, $4 for nonmembers; children under 2 free. Entry is by timed ticket only. Parking: Free parking is available at the museum for all guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that, on high visitation days, the museum lot may reach capacity early in the day. If space is not available on site at the time of your visit, additional parking is available at neighboring municipal garages for a fee. The Strong is not responsible for fees incurred at off-site locations.

“great place to spend an afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Took our Girl Scout troop her (11 yr olds) and they completed one of the Girl Scout backpack programs the museum provides and then had time to explore the museum. We thought some of the activities would be too young for our girls but they had a blast. The museum is bigger than I thought and so much to do. Make sure you have plenty of time to explore it all.

“Can't stop going back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

I decided to get a membership in March and have taken my youngest probably 20+ times. We tend to only stay a couple hours, as my son has his favorite spots that we always go to. Love the new Wegmans and we like to check out the new exhibits they have every couple months. The upstairs sections with the video games usually keeps my older son occupied for quite a while. The dolls and the houses are always a favorite of mine to visit on the second floor, and I enjoy seeing the toys that I grew up with! The staff is friendly, and the place is kept clean. Will probably renew my membership again this upcoming year.

“A "must see" for Rochesterians and visitors with young kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

This is a staple in the Rochester community and an important part of our positioning as a cultural, vibrant, active place for families and young adults. If you are visiting the area and have young kids, you absolutely must pay a visit to the Strong Museum! Even toddlers will enjoy lots of exhibits, as will kids on up to 10+ years old. Adults have a lot of fun, too, exploring with the kids and just playing! Highly recommend this as one of Rochester's best spots for families.

“Lots of Fun”

The Museum is always adding new exhibits and very hands on. Convenient parking and easy to get to. Plenty of places to eat in the area.

“Business dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

What a great idea! A company hiring out part of the museum to host a dinner party. The adults present had a wonderful time. The part of the museum we were able to see was magical. I felt just like a kid again - I got beat at Giant Battleship just like when I was a kid...
