Owner description: Come over to play at the only museum in the world devoted solely to the importance of play. The museum blends the best features of both history museums (extensive collections and children's museums (high interactivity). At 282,000 square feet, The Strong is the largest regional year-round family attraction, and the second largest "children's" museum in the nation. The museum takes play very seriously. Its philosophy-that play is essential to learning and human development-is reflected everywhere you look beginning with its uniquely whimsical architecture (including a butterfly house built to look like the world's largest butterfly, an undulating two-story caterpillar-shaped atrium, and a structure resembling a pile of gigantic children's building blocks). Engaging hands-on exhibits invite you to attend Super Powers School, meet the Berenstain Bears, play your way through the history of video games, enter a giant kaleidoscope, board a whaling ship, see the world's oldest Monopoly games, step into Sesame Street, walk into the pages of a giant pop-up book, and so much more! The museum is home to the region's only indoor butterfly garden; the world's largest and most comprehensive collection of dolls, toys, and games; and the prestigious National Toy Hall of Fame(R). Amenities include a food court, indoor train and carousel, two museum shops, and an outdoor Discovery Garden.Admission Fees: General Admission (does not include admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden(R)):2 and older $13.50, Children under age 2 are free, Museum members free. Admission to Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden: General Admission fee plus $3 for members, $4 for nonmembers; children under 2 free. Entry is by timed ticket only. Parking: Free parking is available at the museum for all guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that, on high visitation days, the museum lot may reach capacity early in the day. If space is not available on site at the time of your visit, additional parking is available at neighboring municipal garages for a fee. The Strong is not responsible for fees incurred at off-site locations.

“Great place to visit with young kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2012

The kids love to visit here. We loved it so much, we joined as members and went as often as we could. Plan to spend the entire day there at a slow pace exploring.

“Fun, Fun, Fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

I have young relatives that go there and they love everything about the place. The things they offer are very educational and fun at the same time.

“Fun for all ages!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

This is a great place to play and learn with your kids.  Check out the grocery store, say hi to big bird and get lost in adventures.  The Butterflies are also amazing and worth the extra money for admission.

“You cannot miss this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2012

If you have children aged 1-12, you must spend a day here. (Even if you don't, you still won't regret it.) The play areas are top notch. I have visited dozens of times, and the staff is always friendly, the place is always clean, and the kids always have a great time. I have been to children's museums in other cities. What sets this apart, in my opinion, is that they constantly have staffers "cleaning up", so the places doesn't degrade into a disorganized pile of toys on busy days. If you live anywhere near the Rochester area and have kids, a membership is a great deal. If I have to complain about one thing, it is that there isn't much for healthy options in the food court. In fact, they recently removed all of the healthy snacks from Louie's and replaced them with vending machine junk. Bring your own apples!
