A beautiful park to stroll through. Visit when the lilacs are in bloom, usually in mid May to enjoy to the fullest.

“The best park in Rochester!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

Highland Park is a gem in Rochester. The park is lovely, designed by Frederick Olmstead, known for his design of Central Park. The trees are wonderful, and the walking path through rhododendrons, tree peonies, and magnolias is lovely. Oh, and I didn't even mention the 400 plus varieties of lilacs! The only down side of the park is that you can not walk there in the winter, as the county no longer clears the walking paths.

“Beautiful Flowers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2014

To visit Highland Park during the Lilac Festival is a must for anyone who enjoys beautiful flowers and wonderful smells. The wonderful varieties of lilacs, the rhodendrums, the panseys, the winding trails all add to the beauty of a stroll through this wonderful flower escape.

“Lilacs, Shakespeare in the Park, Mt. Hope Cemetery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

Beautiful flowers, an arboretum, free Shakespeare play in the summer, adjacent to Mt. Hope cemetery--my favorite place to take visitors to Rochester. I actually prefer NOT to got there during the famous Lilac Festival in May, because it's too crowded.

“Festival or no, this park is gorgeous.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014

Designed by the same landscape architect who did Central Park in NYC, this is a gem in the city. Many people have commented on the festival, but I prefer it without throngs of people, tents when you can smell the flowers more than the fried dough.

My father is an artist, and if you go in late May, in the morning you might stumble upon him with his easel, painting those azaleas. He has been painting in this park for years and it never gets old.
