“In a Pinch, Not Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011

We came here during Huricane Irene. The rooms are clean, but the place needs major TLC. It's not high-end accomodations, but I have to say, the staff couldn't be nicer. Whatever we asked for, they accomodated us. When we needed to stay another night, they made sure we had had their bedst rooms. We had fun during the Huricane and it was an expereince we soon won't forget. My friends and I have already decided that if there is another Huricane next year, this is where we are going.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for non-smoking rooms and a king bed or two queen beds and lots of towels. By the...

Came in from the east end of L.I. during hurricane Irene........Office staff was WONDERFUL.......rooms not elegant and did smell like smoke, but it was tolerable. Rooms were dated, but clean.

My only wish is that they had "no smoking rooms" and "no pet rooms"...........a good deal for the price!

Room Tip: my room was on the south side during a hurricane........guess it depended on the way the wind came f...

About 30 minutes away from Main beach (and the cluster of beaches surrounding it). Rooms have HBO and boxy TVs. Really basic accommodations, which was exactly what I was looking for. Old, but clean. Decor reminiscent of the motels my parents and I stayed in when we went road-tripping in the 90s. I really liked it!

This hotel has the perfect location and the nicest staff. It's a shame the rooms are in such poor condition.

TV worked well, so did the AC. Bathroom was clean but there was a musty odor that lingered in the room and the hallway smelled like someone was smoking marijuana.

Bed was very comfortable and I slept very well. I guess it's OK if you need to crash.

It's not in the best part of town, but in Riverhead it's this for $69 or the hotels on Rte 58 that are waaaay overpriced ($160-$250)

We weren't expecting much, based on a number of unfavorable reviews, but the Budget Host Hotel was available when we needed a place to stay. At first it seemed that it wouldn't be bad - everything looked relatively clean, there was a pool and tennis court - but the "non-smoking room" seemed like it had been housing a chain smoker for a couple of years. Everything smelled of cigarette smoke, and it was the worse night either of us had spent in a hotel in years.

I had the opportunity to check into (or should I say" HORRIFIC" opportunity) The Budget Host Inn. I was never so appauled. The STINCH, in the room and ROACHES, along with SCARY looking residents. I did not stay and they refused a refund. The place should be CONDEMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To paraphrase another recent review, this place is puzzling, and what you experience may depend entirely on the building you are put in and the room you get and how full the motel is, but I suspect your chances will not be good. If the price is all you can afford, it might work for a night or two. If you can, look in another location.
The staff were all very polite and helpful, and there was at least coffee and packaged pastry in the morning, but the room pictures on the website bore no resemblance to our actual room, which had a bad smell and water leaking onto the bathroom floor from somewhere (I don't think about it.) All the rooms in our building were "salvaged" from a former life with previous doors sealed up and window aircon units installed with foam board making up the gaps (the old aircon units were still in place.)
The "adjacent" restaurant looked like it has been shut down for years. While you can walk to town, it is across a busy traffic circle, and anyway I would not recommend walking in the neighborhood after dark.
I know the room prices are high in Riverhead, which is puzzling also. Riverhead is really trying with a nice waterfront walk and park and a couple of really nice shops and restaurants on main street in addition to the aquarium and water park and I guess huge mall, the latter probably causing at least two blocks of shuttered shops on main street, really too bad for the main part of the town
