We loved Max's Memphis BBQ. For years it was a go to place because although the ambiance was far too loud, the food more than made up for it and the service was good.
That seems to have undergone a drastic change.
I called in a take out order for a whole chicken and a couple of sides. The woman I spoke with read my order back to me and had the entire order correct.
I walked in and stood at the host desk.
I tried to catch the eye of the roaming wait staff but they were dodging eye contact like it was a contact sport.
The bartender was chit chatting with another staff. When I started forward they both took off for parts unknown.
I finally stalked a waitress down that was trying to enter her order. I asked if she could find someone to help me. She nodded and kept entering the order (hey, I understood that).
As she was about to wander off the host waltzed in, so I shifted back to the host desk.
He did not look up.
He did not do anything except answer the phone.
And engage in 12 minutes of personal conversation with someone he obviously worked with. I was in stunned shock.
He finally looked up and got my expression. He asked me if someone was helping me. To which I replied "NO"
The bag of food sitting behind him that HAD been sitting there when I had entered Max's 20 minutes prior was mine.
AND... the order was wrong.
The chicken was missing.
So, more wait time.
Just the offer to accept full payment for EVERYTHING - including the cold food that had already been waiting.
I paid for the food.
I drove home.
and the chicken was slightly undercooked.
I have never been treated so disrespectfully anywhere. It sent me into a shock.
It also cost them a loyal customer.
