“Great Family Winter Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

We went to the Six Flags Lodge and Waterpark during the Spring Break (April 17th). As expected the place was completely sold out and it was very busy. I had to pay premium $$ for this stay. I came here once earlier and got a really good deal at travelzoo.com and this time I paid 4 times more. It hurt but this was the only time the kids could take time out.

When you hear Six Flags you think of these huge amusement parks with a lot of rides and large area. This is nothing like that. The water park is indoor and comparably quite small. I would recommend staying at the lodge which includes the water park tickets. They offer a large soda mug for $10 with unlimited refills during your stay. This is a must. If we had to pay for all the drinks individually we would have spent a bundle. But this also makes you drinks a lot of extra sugary drinks thinking its free. They also offer 2 pizza + wings + soda deal during booking for $40. Though it sounds good but we did not like the pizza at all. It was really bad. You can save money by picking it up rather than room service (which is 20%). They provide the towels at the water park which is really convenient. There are 2 individual slides with the blue one being the dark one and the yellow a bit easier one. There is a family ride with a max of 4 people. With the spring break crowd this ride took forever. The machine that brings the craft up broke down 2 times and it was so heavy to carry. They need to fix it. All three are from the same platform and are quite enjoyable and not too long and scary (as in some other outdoor water parks). There are some other (3) water slides for younger kids which were good fun. Our 3 year old had a great time on those. The lazy river is really lazy and it was difficult to find a tube due to the crowds. We just walked around the river which is not too big. The one ride that we really liked and which had waits over an hour was surfing. This was exciting and so much fun - wish the waits where less so we could have gone multiple times. You actually dive on this ride with a board and try to balance yourself over a stream of water moving upwards at high speed. It looks scary and you get overturned many times but you can't get hurt due to the material and also the attendant closes the ride if they think you are unable to handle. This is a must do.

There are 3 eating choices and 1 coffee shop. We liked the Johnny Rockets which is a diner and its very reasonable with Huge portions. We had to get half the food packed. Very quick service and good food. The food at the water park is what you expect - hot dogs, burgers and pizza which are more expensive than what you would find outside. But who wants to leave the water park and go eat outside. You can also get a beer mug and keep refilling it for $6 or $8 depending on the beer which is quite expensive but still you need to have at least a couple. The pizza was much better than the regular restaurant. The other restaurant is a sit down dining with better choices. They also offer a buffet every morning for $10. They didn't have too much choices so we choose Johnny Rockets for breakfast instead. Its a good place to hang out after a whole day at the water park to get a drink or have dinner. Due to limited seating there are long waits. The coffee shop hardly opens. I saw it open in the morning but could not get a coffee at 4 p.m. So you have to look for its timings.

There are some outlet malls outside the lodge but nothing out of the world. There are better ones in North Conway and upstate NY. If you want to eat out there are many place 4-5 miles towards downtown Lake George which is a beautiful small town. Lot of activities and water sports but if you spend so much money at the water park you better use the water park.

Overall great family fun but will visit during non peak time to spend less on lodging and more on the rides. Highly recommended for winters.

The weather is unpredictable in the north country to say the least. The indoor waterpark was guaranteed to be 80 degrees no matter if it was snowing and 20 outside! There are few places in reasonable distance that can feel like a true vacation away from the cold! The room was like a 2 bedroom apartment and roomy enough for all 10 ppl in our party. The waterpark rides and activities were good for all ages.

Water park is excellent and a ton of fun. It is very warm and enjoyable for the little ones. I didn't know that you needed sunscreen and I thought the lockers are a little pricey ($16-20). A few small issues with the room but nothing to take away from a great trip.

The Lodge was great! Very clean and the staff is friendly. Water park is kind of small but sufficient for one or two night stay and has something for everyone. There is a lot to do in the area too if you have time to venture out. Overall we had a really fun time.

Room Tip: We didn't spend a lot of time in our room so the traditional suite was perfect for us! Reasonabl...

Spring break week we arrived on a Monday at noon and left at noon the next day. My 8 and 10 year old had a lot of fun. We swam for a couple of hours when we first arrived, then settled in the room for a little bit, went to the arcade for an hour, went to dinner, then back to the pool for another couple hours. We checked out the next morning and swam for a couple hours before leaving.

Water park was good. Noisy as you would expect. Full but not crowded on Monday. A bit more crowded on Tuesday. There is a family slide that was fun. Two tube slides that were good. Two open slides that my son enjoyed because there was very little waiting. One smaller slide that was fine.

The family slide and the tube slides are in total darkness. It did not bother us, but I was not expecting that.

My daughter liked the lazy river, the sprayers and a small swimming area attached to the lazy river.

We did not use the lockers. We used the changing area once. There were no hooks or anywhere to hang or set things. A few hooks would have been nice.

Room was good. Normal hallway noise for a hotel room. My kids are early to bed, so that was a bit of a problem, but it was not exceptionally bad.

The arcade was good for an hour's enjoyment. We spent about $10.

Bottom line is that we had a good time. We would go back. I would try to avoid spring break week, if we can. One night was plenty.

Just returned from a quick, two-night spring break getaway with our two daughters (8 and 5), and overall, it was about what we expected. We arrived at 2, check-in was immediate and our room was ready, even though check-in formally wasn't until 4. We went to our room and found it to be spacious and clean. We quickly changed and went down to the water park.

The water park is obviously the main attraction to staying at the lodge, and overall, I would say we got the most out of it. The biggest issue for us was just how understaffed the park was. There was no one checking wristbands at the entrance (then why state you have to keep them on for the length of your stay?) and no one to prevent young kids from entering on their own (then why state no one under 13 may enter without a parent?). I would say the park needed several more lifeguards to attend everything adequately - particularly the raft rides, where only one lifeguard was allowing people onto the three different rides, when one more lifeguard up there would have made the wait minimal and have the process run much more efficiently. I am also assuming that the lack of staff is what often kept one of the raft rides (either the family raft ride or the two individual raft rides) closed. When there are so few rides, to have any of them closed for any amount of time is a huge issue. The raft rides themselves are not great - all of them are completely dark for the entire ride. Considering their role, I don't think it would be age discrimination to point out that I question the ages of some of the lifeguards, as some were so old, I would worry about them hurting themselves if they did have to take action.

In addition to removing the evident rust and mold, and some paint touch-ups, what the water park would benefit most from is a separate pool for kids to simply swim on their own, rather than just an area where people use to enter and exit the lazy river. The lazy river does move swiftly and during the entire length of my stay, I never saw any of the lifeguards intervene despite extensive rough housing going on.

As for everything else - the room showed some age, with a broken lamp and paint peeling. I'm still trying to figure out why the shower would have a shower curtain that does not reach to the tub, because water was dripping onto the bathroom floor. Ate at Johnny Rockets one night, and while the food was good, again, there were so few servers, that some people were waiting up to 30 minutes despite there being plenty of empty tables. If you have the chance and are willing to take a short drive directly out of the Lodge entrance, check out Docksiders restaurant, great food and nice people right on the edge of Lake Glen.

We enjoyed the waterpark for one full day and the Six-Flags Great Escape the next. Rooms were a bit small, but clean. Only ate lunch at water park (not in hotel), which was fine. Coffee shop in hotel was convenient.

Nice for a weekend. If you stay longer than a weekend, visit other Lake George area attractions, rent a boat, swim the lake.
