“Qunitessential North-Country B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2009

What a pleasant and relaxing 4-day/5-night stay!! The owners - Nancy and Joe - were great hosts, sharing their home and knowledge of the area with their guests. The B&B was near full every evening, and we had the pleasure of sharing our stay with couples from as far as England to as close as Westchester, NY - all expressed satisfaction with their accommodations - and of course, the gourmet breakfasts! Having searched TripAdvisor prior to booking (to check reviews), we had minor concern for the one negative review - but saw no evidence whatsoever of the discontent expressed. The hosts were only helpful and friendly - their charm really added to our "getaway weekend-plus". Their suggestions on location attractions, places to dine and shop along with daily (accurate) weather reports allowed us to maximize the time we had available. The room was extremely clean and comfortable - and the breakfasts are some of the best we've had in 35 years of travel. The Inn is a great hub for day tripping - 5 major attractions within easy commutes (Fort Ticonderoga - Crown Pt./ Shelburn Museum Complex/ Saratoga National Battlefield/ Lake Placid-White Face Mt. - Au Sable Chasm/ Town Woodstock Vt.). Closing comment - we're recommending this B&B to other family that will be visiting in the future - and TLC Inn will be our accommodations for our next trip to the Lake Champlain Region.

My husband spent a weekend here and loved every minute of our stay. The location is magificent - quiet and serene which is what we were looking for. Hummingbirds came up to feed on the porch. We were greeted by a pleasant and helpful inn keeper. The rooms were immaculate and the breakfast were two of the best that we have had anywhere and we have stayed in over two dozen B and B's. Our room was small but we felt that the value was right. This is one of those hidden treasures!

We were very disappointed in our stay at the TLC. We were rudely greeted at 2:57 PM with a "you are early" and told to go stretch our legs. The check-in time was not indicated on the web site or in the correspondence from the owners. The property was littered with old shopping carts, piles of collected items, and empty motor oil cans. The rooms were not properly cleaned and dead bugs and spider webs were all around. We were not given the room that we reserved. All in all, this was the most disappointing B&B we have encountered in many years of travel.

This is the ideal B&B right on Lake Champlain, set off by itself so that you get the full impact of being in the country. You can look across the lake to Vermont if you want to, but the Adirondack village of Putnam Station has its own charms--apple orchards, horse farms, fishing, 18th century churchyards, etc. --close to Fort Ticonderoga and other historic sights. The B&B is an old farmhouse with a lot of country character but updated with all the modern conveniences. Its squeaky clean and beautifully decorated in country-Victorian style. The hosts are wonderfully welcoming and the breakfast is worthy of Gourmet magazine. A fantastic getaway.

We stayed at the Inn on Lake Champlain for 2 nights on our return from Canada. It is very close to Ticonderoga, NY where the restored Fort Ticonderoga can be visited.

The owners of the Inn on Lake Champlain are very helpful and friendly - and the breakfast was amazing. Our two daughters loved the collection of teddy bears.

They don't have a room that accomodates 4 people, so they gave us a 2nd room at a reduce price. In mid august the evenings are quite cool and we slept amazingly well in their very comfortable beds. Bathrooms are ensuite. All in all, it was very restful.

If you go, you must try Ti Pie - a pizza restaurant in nearby Ticonderoga. I've had pizza from all over the world - Brooklyn, Manhattan, New Haven, Italy, France....and I think that they had the best! We went back the second night just to make sure!

  • Liked — comfort
  • Disliked — the lake itself is not accessable - train tracks line the entire coast on the NY side (easy to get to VT side which is quite charming)

We recently stayed at the Lake Champlain Inn and recommend it for those who want a secluded, restful stay. If your plan is to be out all day touring, then settle in for the night with a good book, this might just be the place for you. The inn is a lovingly restored Victorian with 4 bedrooms with private baths. There's also a separate cottage called the Schoolhouse with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, and full kitchen. The hospitable innkeepers greet you in the morning with a hearty breakfast and send you on your way with extra freshly baked muffins. However, if you enjoy an inn/hotel with lots of amenities like multiple activities on site, keep looking. The Inn is at least 10 miles from anywhere, so if you'd like to go kayaking or horseback riding or sailing, be prepared to spend lots of time on the road.
