“Terrible place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We were booked into this hotel by an expedia agent. When we arrived I had a bad feeling right away. Checkin was less than pleasant . Hotel is totally run down, rooms need a makeover.. Toilet didn't work properly. After a lousy night with drunk guests screaming and shouting in the hallway, it was no surprise that the braekfast was just as bad as everything else. By all means avoid this place, rather sleep in your car if can't find anything else.

Do not stay at this hotel. Rooms were musty and filthy. Air conditioner did not work but the noise was defining. Staff was rude and unhelpful.

We were supposed to stay 2 nights but we couldn't take it. Went to checkout at 2 pm but the front desk still charged us for the second night saying that "housekeeping had already been in the room"

DO NOT STAY HERE!

We booked this location despite the weak reviews as there was nothing else available for graduation weekend. Figured it couldn't be that bad as a few of the reviews were moderate.

Well ... Drove up on Friday afternoon to arrive at a hotel with an empty lot (except for a few trucks on the edge), broken shades visible from the lot, cracks and garbage and a basic sense of desolation. Checked the address to make sure we were in the right place and amazingly we had arrived. We thought the place must be closed by the way it looked. So we sat in the lot to see if anyone came out or went in. Meanwhile I seriously questioned the Trip Advisor ratings as this clearly was a bottom of the barrel location.

Finally a couple drives up and the man walks in, so we walk in to register. Check in is okay - the young man at the desk was very nice - but as we walk out another employee makes the most crude comment about my daughter. I couldn't believe it. Hotel management consider a) who you employ and b) train them. I would never ever recommend this place based on the rude comment alone which made me concerned about her safety but there's more...

While our room was ancient but relatively okay, others who checked in after us told us how their rooms were a shambles with broken shades, messy rooms, and looked like they had only been opened for graduation weekend.

We had many discussions whether it would have been better to sleep in the car - which we both agreed would be a step up from where we were - and we were very glad that we'd made arrangements for the kids to stay at the college dorms which were definitely a much cleaner, and safer, place.

Avoid this place!

The indignities included: stained sheets and no help changing them, a stairwell (obligatory for access to our room) that smelled strongly of cat urine, and a view featuring what looked like the hotel's own scattered trash. The decor is depressing. The televisions are outdated. The help was unhelpful and unapologetic.

On the plus side: We were at the motel on a weekend that saw graduations from three local colleges. Like airlines selling the last seat, many hotels had jacked up their prices by 300 per cent and more—and months in advance. The Grand (then a Clarion) charged only what appeared to be a 50 per cent premium. Another quasi plus: Breakfast was pleasantly served, if greasy.

For a mid-range, serviceable hotel in this area, we prefer the Hampton Inn up the road.

I picked this Hotel as it was only 4 miles from my Friends Apt in Wappingers Falls. The Staff were Excellent & the Hot/Cold Buffet Breakfast was Great . I'm an Early Bird so the fact that it started at 5AM was a bonus. It is a Historic Hotel, once the Clarion, so you should expect that the Overall Decor would fit that Era. The rooms were very clean & had changed linens daily . I stayed a week & enjoyed myself immensely . Thanks Mercury Grand Hope to see you next year.

We stayed here as a family for one night. We were greeted by a friendly girl at the front desk but when it came time to ask her to shut down the hip hop thumping party next door around midnight, she was less than effective. She eventually gave us a new room after three calls but at 12:30 am moving two young children and a grumpy husband makes for a lousy start of a vacation. Not to mention when we arrived our room was at least 85 degrees inside, reeked of cigarette smoke and the smoke alarm was chirping. Even after changing the batteries it still chirped so the manager just took the batteries out. Great. The hotel is home to a Saturday night comedy club - the joke was on us!

We were at the Clarion back in May 2012 with a huge wedding entourage for 3 days. Staff beyond friendly and accommodating. Hotel and the room is a little worn/outdated could use a facelift no doubt, but not a big deal, ideal location off the main road, access to restaurants, pharmacies, walmart, kohls’, etc..

Pool was not in any condition to use. Continental breakfast was good, no issues

Considering price, holiday weekend with area college graduations, all in all a good deal with no real complaints.
