“Nice trip , beats the traffic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Took the ferry across the sound and the trip was very good. The crew is nice and work hard to keep the schedule and are very organized. Had somewhat of a rough trip but that was due to weather. Not at all the ferrys fault. Return trip was beautiful and it was smooth sailing. Was nice to have our dog with us up on the top deck. The ride beats sitting in traffic ,but is somewhat expensive. We paid for the car and extra for each person other then driver. Include the trip back and we paid 140 round trip. A little bit costly. Overall it was a nice trip but not something you can do frequently due to high cost.

“Spend the money- don't drive!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

What a treat- the high point of a trip from Rhode Island to Long Island. You are encouraged to make reservations...and I was glad I did, as they seem to fill up with cars fairly quickly. There was even a big truck on my boat. But do arrive 1/2 hr early. They have good people guiding you on and off. You get your ticket inside in the galley, and the staff collects it before you debark.
The galley has lots of seats, and a nice food set up. I sat outside a while, then when it rained, went into an underused bar area. (Its probably full later in the day.)
Returning I had to drive over the Whitestone. That was no fun at all.

“It beats driving 495 west and over the Throgs Neck”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Riding on the Port Jefferson/Bridgeport Ferry is always like a breath of fresh air (when the weather permits sitting outside). It's a calm hour on the water, where you can grab a snack, read, check your email or just go outside and enjoy the view. It's gotten a little pricy over the years - it cost me 70.00 for a car, driver and one passenger, but still worth it. Whether travelling northeast for business or pleasure, I always try to take the Port Jefferson Ferry.

“Ferry to Bridgeport, CT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Not much to say, the boats are clean and accessible, and always a better choice than driving up the island, over the bridge and up the 95 corridor, where th traffic can be horrendous. The boat ride doesn't really save you much time, but it does save the white-knuckle driving aggravation...

“Avoid the bridges”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

With ferries every hour or so this is a great option for getting from Stony Brook University to New England. Although it doesn't save time on a good traffic day, it avoids the hassle of going around through the city.
