The location was great. Not far from the college or shopping and with a 99 restarant attached and a Ground Round in the parking lot.
The room was fairly big, clean and comfortable. It was 2nd floor (staff came and carried my luggage upstairs), with 2 double beds, a mini fridge, coffee maker & microwave & there was an interior (good thng because it was pouring rain outside) long shared balcony overlooking the indoor pool which was perfect for the family to hang out (we had 5 rooms total between us all). The bed was pretty hard and the bedspread smelled like smoke ( Oh well - it was a smoking room but it was graduation weekend & the only room available) and there was TV noise from the adjoining room but, otherwise things were OK.
The next day, I saw the maid in the hall and asked if she would be cleaning the room the next day also as I was broke, had to go to the ATM and couldn't leave a tip that day so I wanted to make sure I didn't leave a tip only for the next day's maid. She assured me she would be and I went down to breakfast (regular continental with good coffee). I came back and the dirty towels had been taken away but not yet replaced. I went to the store for beer & snacks for after dinner when everyone would be back at my room and clean towels had been left on the closed toilet seat. I dumped the water from my cooler, made a mess on the bathroom floor and cleaned it up with one of the new towels and brought it out and left it on the cleaning cart that was still parked in the hall. When I left again for my niece's graduation, I saw the maid in the hall again and told her I'd left another towel on her cart and could I please get a replacement and she said that was fine. I figured she'd be back to clean the room anyway as it hadn't been done yet.
Several hours later, we all got back from the graduation and everyone was coming to my room to sit out on the balcony. My door was wide open and the room had still not been cleaned but, there was the extra towel I had asked for, tossed on the luggage rack. I did a search of my room and nothing was missing but it was still upsetting. I called the front desk to let them know my room hadn't been cleaned and someone had been in, left the extra towel I had asked for and left my door open. The woman asked twice if I was sure I hadn't left it open myself and I don't think she quite believed me, even when I told her the extra towel had been left while I was gone. To be fair, it might not have been the maid who left the door open as the remote for the TV was broken (and the TV doesn't work w/o the remote) and that had also been replaced while I was gone
No one ever came to clean the room. Because my room was where we all hung out, I had lots of empty beer, wine & soda bottles, food containers, etc. all left. The coffee for the room coffee maker wasn't replaced and I got no clean glasses. Basically, she took the dirty towels, left clean towels, left my door wide open (if that was her) and that was it.
For the first time in my life, I didn't tip.
Of the other 4 rooms my family booked, 3 were cleaned (so it wasn't hotel policy to just replace towels) and the one that stayed in my hall was not cleaned. She never even got clean towels.
To top all this off, when I took the towels off the toilet seat, folded them and out them up on the towel rack, I saw that one of the towels she left me was MY towel that I brought for the pool. I had left it on the closet shelf and you couldn't mistake it for a hotel towel because it has a wide green stripe across it.
I have no reason to go to Plattsburgh again (unless another family member goes to that school) but if I did, I'd choose another hotel.
