“Hotel without windows, ugh”

I stayed here for 4 nights (booked for me). Hotel was pretty bad. The worst thing was the lack of windows - just one window at the front of the bedroom, looking out onto the corridor, so curtains had to be kept closed. Very small and low-quality bathroom (just toilet and bath/shower). Low quality fixtures (sink - which was outside the bathroom, handy enough). Ultra grumpy unhelpful desk staff. Room left half-made up in mid-day so I had to take a nap on a bed without sheets. Not a pleasant place to stay but survivable.
Positives - it was very clean.

“**Theft in Hotel ** Attention”

Holiday Inn Plainview

Jun 11, 2008

I hereby would like to state that Holiday inn PLAINVIEW,had overcharged my credi card by charging two additional nights.Even thoug by the time of my check-out jun/03/2008(before 11am),i was not able to perform a proper check-out due to hotel computer difficulties.I was reassured by Mr Marc Arnold Guest service Manager, that there wouldn t by any future problems in respect over biling.I had already provided to the hotel staff concret evidence in order to prove my statement, surprisingly that had refused to find a satisfactory solution for the problem created by their unjustified procedures.Furthemore i and nunber of other individuals had been trying to reach Mr Marc in order to provide my justified my reimbursement.Unfortunately Mr Marc:1) had to refused to accept
our calls,2)had not behaved properly toward guests of his own hotel,3)had intentionally deceived me by requesting documents, witch where sent by FAX-supposed to be used to solve the problem -when he clearly had no intention to assist me.
It should be said that i had trusted Mr Marc-my only mistake-during the check-out procedure, who had state categorically that I WOULD NOT BE CHARGED FOR THE TWO ADDITIONAL NIGHTS despite the hotel computer malfunction.

“OK In A Pinch”

BullHusky's review is quite accurate in most respects. I, too, emphasize the cleanliness and the friendliness. The pool, like the rooms, was spotless.

However, the bathroom was minuscule and it's been a very long time since I used a non-elongated toilet. Oops. There was no latch on the bathroom door. Water pressure was AOK even during peak-demand times. There's plenty of free parking. I am very sensitive to noise. Because all the hallways have windows, they lend themselves to hanging around and chatting. At about midnight one night, I treated a well-dressed wedding group to the sight of me in my underwear when I had to open my door and ask them to be quiet. This is not the hotel's fault, of course, just the total lack of civility and respect from adults who should be better behaved.

Sunday brunch was totally adequate. If you are traveling with a group, make sure you speak to Julie, the banquet (restaurant?) manager, to arrange for a better price. We had 25+ and she was gracious and accommodating. The lady in the restaurant at Sunday brunch was delightful.

It's my understanding that all the rooms are exactly the same. Try to book upstairs in the back of the building where there will be less hall traffic. The downside is that you'll need to use the elevator to get to your room. Not a big deal since it only makes 3 stops.

While we were there, the bar/restaurant were hopping on both Friday and Saturday nights.

There are no bellhops; I saw a luggage cart in a hallway once but never again.

The ice-machines have plenty of ice but if you're filling a cooler, make sure you have something small-lipped to catch the ice since the dispenser leaves very little room to stock up. A cheap plastic ice bucket or a gallon milk container with the top cut off would be ideal.

About the "non-smoking." There was an odor in the room that we now can identify as some sort of deodorizing material. After we got home and unpacked, my wife brought me some of her clothes that reeked of smoke. Funny that we didn't smell smoke while we were there -- just something that covered it up --but yep, there it was. There was a little sign in the room reminding that it was a non-smoker but we know how smokers are...

As Bullhusky implied, the "business center" is a joke. One computer. One chair. One table. Probably the bare minimum necessary to qualify for a BC under the Holiday Inn Rules and Regs.

It is perfectly adequate for soccer teams. The Massapequa Park is minutes away. The LIE is right outside the door. Take it to 135 South. Take Exit 8 (Powell Avenue) and you can't miss the signs. The Mapquest and Google directions take you to a different entrance...the wrong one.

“Served the purpose and more for a soccer tournament”

Holiday Inn Plainview

May 26, 2008

We visited the hotel with my son's early teen soccer team. After reading some last minute reviews of the property, we almost cancelled . However, we decided to give it a try and once settled in, our concerns dissipated.

No, it is not the Ritz Carlton. However, the property and rooms were VERY clean( my wife is a neat freak who checks behind the toilet and under the beds), the staff was great bordering on fantastic-especially for Metro New York- and the services were above average. We were in a non-smoking section and did not experience any of the smoke complaints of earlier reviewers. The noise wasn't nearly as bad as previously reviewed but our teams had a section of the hotel and we kept our charges in check.

We had a two double bed room which was the size that we expected. The television was an older model with a slightly fuzzy picture. However, as stated above, we were there for a soccer tournament and only used the television for a few minutes at a time.

No, the rooms do not have a window that provide an exterior view. This is a former motor hotel that was updated in 2001 at which time the exterior catwalks were enclosed to create interior hallways. However, the exterior windows in the hallway provide just enough morning light under the door and at the exterior edges of the room's window shades that we knew it was morning.

The bed was very firm. The bathroom, consisting of a toilet and shower in one room and the face bowl at the end of the bedroom, was small and would not accomodate a pro football lineman( they can afford the Ritz Carlton for a kids' soccer tournament). However, it is more than adequate for anyone smaller than 6'6" , 300 lbs(the ceiling in the bathroom area was lower than the bedroom). The shower/tub although small provided a superior shower and was immaculate in its cleanliness.

There were adequate vending and ice machines on each of the two floors which was important for the thirty or so families from our soccer program.

The restaurant was good. The Saturday menu breakfast was well done and the Sunday Breakfast Brunch had everything that you would expect, except no made to order omlets. The food was of very good quality and I heard no complaints.

The hotel exercise room consisted of the usual assortment of aerobic equipment and weight machines. Although I didn't have an opportunity to work out there, I did not notice any dumbells or free weights. However, there is a commercial gym facility within yards of the hotel. Also, the unheated outdoor pool was very clean.

The business center consisted of one terminal. Our kids dominated the room between games. So, I didn't have an opportunity to use the room.

In closing, this is a very good hotel for familes on a budget and a great hotel for sports teams looking for a place to stay while attending weekend tournaments on Long Island. The staff was very accomodating and the facility was clean.

I was pleasantly surprised during my one night stay at this hotel. We picked this hotel because it was close to a wedding we were attending and the price was reasonable. We are 4 adults in our fifties. I found the room to be spacious and clean. The bathroom was well lit with the tub/shower area extremely well kept. The towels were large and fluffy. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and friendly as well as in the restaurant/bar. Being that this was Memorial weekend, I did have trouble booking a room. After finding no vacancies through Travelocity, Expedia, and the hotel themselves, I was able to locate a room through Kayak.com. Actually, I was able to book 4 smoking rooms. I called the Holiday Inn the day before and they were able to switch us over to non-smoking. The only downside was that the window was open to a hallway, so the curtains had to be closed for privacy. Btw, the bar was hopping with an excellent band playing Saturday night. The dance floor was packed.
