5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2014 via mobile

the owner was very nice and she has two beautiful cats. We taked the only cabin available. very old fashion cabin interior in woods! But is very clean, cute and quiet place! The price was very nice.the location is good, the ausable beach (beautiful lake champlain) is near. It's sure we return at this place next summer!

This motel is a very simple, old-fashioned, peaceful place to lose all your stress. It is surrounded by grass and trees. It is very quiet. The owner is very friendly. The price of a room is very low. Everything is very clean, inside and out. This is very close to Ausable Chasm, which is truly spectacular.

The one thing to be aware of is this: in our room, the electrical outlets were the old 2-prong type. For us, this was a very minor issue. There was free wifi in our room, however.

This is an upbeat hardscrabble place. The owner is very nice and helpful, and has upgraded the finish year after year. Our unit had a kitchen, bath, and dining area in addition to the beds. The kitchen and larger furniture pieces are a bit worn, but it's a bargain, and clean the whole way. Some units are a little back from the road, and some right on it. But it's reasonably quiet: there is not much traffic, and what traffic there is dies down to nearly no vehicles at the end of the day.

It's right down the road from Ausable Chasm, which is a natural wonder run by locals who want everyone who visits to have simple, unadorned family fun.

In the other direction are Ausable Point and Plattsburgh. Don't tell anyone about Ausable Point. It's an under-visited state park with great views up and down Lake Champlain. It has a road through the marsh with lookouts, and at the end, a beach on a bay. Water shoes are a good option if you want to go wading and have tender feet, but they're not absolutely necessary.

Returning to the Shamrock ... it makes a great base of operations if the location works for you, and you get to breathe the Adirondack air.

If you are looking for a fancy place with amenities this place is probably not for you. My wife and I needed a place to stay just for a night and it fit the bill perfectly. The price was very reasonable, and the manager/owner was very nice. She gave us tips on places to see during our short stay. We chose a cabin and it was what you might expect from a roadside motel, nothing fancy. The room did have a slight musty smell but we ran the window mounted fan and ceiling fan and it went away. I would probably stay there again for a day or two the next time we are in town. If I was traveling with younger kids who wanted a pool and activities I would probably spend more and stay elsewhere.

My family of four stayed for 1 night on August 16th. The place was SPOTLESS and comfortable. I was worried about staying in a motel because I've had bad experiences (someone else in our group had found it). This place exceeded my expectations and the price was great. We had adjoining rooms (10 & 11) and there was a small kitchenette in one of them. My kids loved the place and we plan to go next summer and stay longer. It was close to Ausable Chasms - which was a great place too! It was quiet at night and we all slept well. Overall a great experience. A real find:)

Room Tip: If going with a family ask for the adjoining rooms with kitchenette. The price cannot be beat and h...

Been going there since 2005. This is a clean, well-run, and nicely manicured motel with rooms to fit all needs and budgets. Janice is so kind and goes out of her way to accommodate everyone with just the right room(s) for their needs. From solo cabins to individual, air-conditioned rooms to suites with kitchenettes, you'll find a super-clean and quiet place to rest that is set back from the road. Even though she'll try to find a way to fit you in, try to reserve early. Those who have stayed there will go back again and again -- like me!

Room Tip: Cabins are cozy and extra quiet. My favorites are the ones on the south side with a/c, fans, and fur...
