“Gorgeous views and they have a pool”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2011

The management definitely doesn't appreciate what they have in this hotel and they don't take care of the grounds. You have to be careful around the pool, when we were there swimming and walking around the deck, I noticed broken glass by the restaurant area. For the price, it's great (around $115 per night) anything more and it wouldn't be worth it. The rooms feel like you're in your grandma's extra bedroom. But you're super close to Bear Mountain and if you want a cheap getaway and aren't expecting much, it's perfect! And the view of the river really is beautiful.

Our swimming pool overlooking the hudson river with its gorgeous views is one of our main attractions during the summer. Keeping it and its surroundings well maintained is always a top priority. Despite our signs, our diligence, and the restaurant/lounge providing plastic cups, occasionally a guest will bring glass to the pool from their rooms. When observed, guests are always asked to remove the glass and are provided with plastic cups. However, so far this summer we have not found any broken glass around the pool, nor has any been reported by any guests until this review. So, even though the comment about broken glass is surprising, we will continue our diligent efforts to prevent it.

Thank You

It's sad that the grounds people and the manager miss the point of having such fine property to watch over....

Overall the price was a bit too much considering what was on offer, however we stayed over the memorial w/e therefore it was busy time.

nice sleep, king size bed, trains you can hear them but it did not bothered us. tv channels were fine for us, for us this was more of a base for us travel around hudson.
the only thing that i could not stand was the carpets, they in all honestly need changing, as others have mentioned it is disgusting. If you do go bring a pair of slippers, after a shower you dont want to step on it.

i would stay/recommend to others if they address the carpets, & broken furniture.

i paid i know that weekends and public holidays, rooms do generally cost more. but it is not worth the money that i paid.

I don't understand the negative reviews. The hotel staff are kind and helpful and the rooms about what you would expect for $100 bucks a night or so. My wife and I were very comfortable and would return if we are in the area again. Note: It is true that you can hear a train whistle every hour or so. The facilities are a little run down but also a little charming, on the whole noting special but a good establishment to consider because for what they lack in facilities they make up for in location and service!

Asked for non smoking, got a smoking room. The room had a terrible odor and we had to spray freshner everywhere, the carpets where terribly dirty and, worn, small fridge on the floor with a very small microwave on top of it. the tv was about 10 yrs old real small screen on top of the dresser, and, only had about 10 channels. No coffee maker. The balcony railings where held together with a square piece of wood and a hing (unsafe). The pool was closed ( we where told it was opened) (80+ degree weather) which was very dissapointing, continental breakfast was absolutly horrible. At night alllll you heard where the trains go by every hour blowing their horns. In all the place is disgusting. Was supposed to stay 3 nights but left after 1 night night. We expected to find a fabulous place when we looked at the web site but, very disceiving. for what they charge per night I could have stayed in a 5 star hotel elsewhere......

The written comment cards we receive daily from our guests are overwhelmingly positive. It seems only the negatives make it on the internet.

However, we do apologize to the guest for assigning them a smoking room. We admit the mistake, however, if they would have returned to the front desk and voiced their concern, we would have happily tried to fix the problem by upgrading them or giving them a full refund, if they were not totally satisfied. We were never given the opportunity for service recovery.

As for the TV channels, we provide 42 satellite channels free to the guest. They include local channels, sports, news, movie and a variety of other channels.

As for the train, the trains do run along the river. To provide the million dollar views that we do, we are near the river.

As for the pool, it was closed on Friday because we were wating to be sure our anti-vortex drain cover was not on the national re-call list that closed many pools across the nation Memorial weekend. Our pool was opened the next day on Saturday for the rest of the summer.

As for the railings, only the old inside railings between the rooms are temporarily secured, but safe as we finish up a 3/4 of a million dollar renovation. The railing system that protects our guests from the front edge is brand new and fully secure and safe. We are awaiting delivery of the inside rails to complete that segment of the renovation. Also part of the renovation is our guest rooms. Not all of our guest rooms have been completed as of yet, but the new guest room design is as stunning as our views.

Room was bare bones. Heat worked erratically, and front door lock stopped working. Everything was fixed when reported, but had to have heat fixed twice in two days! Beds are doubles and not queens. And "beautiful view" advertised includes a nuclear power plant! Railroad runs day and night, blowing its whistle and walls are paper-thin so you can hear people in next room plain as day.

I read the reviews and thought people are so mean, how bad can it be. We were going to a wedding nearby and didn't want to drive back to Rockland County, so we book a room for the night. First of all, w got THE WORST room. The Inn boasts beautiful views and terraces... we had neither! Their own restaurant was blocking any view we might have had from our TINY window. Then I was afraid to put down my stuff or sit anywhere... the dirt and dust was making me ill. I checked under the sheets for bedbugs.... I didn't find any but i did find pubic hairs and other dirt and got grossed out. We were getting ready for the wedding reception there, but I didnt even want to take a shower. So we got ready, went to the party and after the wedding, we packed up our stuff and checked out. I must tell you I have NEVER done this before. We didn't want to have to drive home after having a few drinks, but i was willing to take the risk not have to sleep there. Don't go!

Mangement and the owners take all reviews very seriously and we find this review very concerning. Our housekeeping staff takes great pride in their work and consequently were very shocked and upset with this review. However, we did revisit our room cleanliness procedures again and thoroughly inspected all the rooms with our housekeeping supervisor. In addition to note we deep clean and perform room maintenance on average two rooms per week. All the furniture from the room is removed during this process, so as to not just clean around the furniture. In additon, we have a contract with a top rated pest control company that treats our rooms and property on a regular schedule and a specially trained canine inspects our rooms quarterly for bed bugs. Our standard is well above most chains.

What also concerns us about this review is that their were no guest during the time frame stated that complained in any way about their room and or were looking for any compensation. If they would have, then we would have offered to upgrade them, compensate them in some manor or form and if we could not have satisfied them, we would have fully refunded their money. Unfortunately, we were not given the opportunity to perform any kind of service recovery.
