“Learned a lot. Important stop to understand history of Palmyra.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2014

The women at the museum were most friendly, helpful and full of information. We made the mistake of starting our tour too late in the day so we did not get to see all of the buildings usually shown on the tour. The main museum did have a map of the famous graves in the cemetery that was of great help to us. The LDS sites do not have this map.
We enjoyed learning about coverlets. I did not know what they were before.
To do justice to what they have to offer you should plan on spending 1.5 to 2 hours. Bonnie was very helpful and just brimming with information. We learned many things that tie into the LDS religious history of Palmyra.

“A good stop for local history.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

The museum itself appears to be a conglomeration of many items. The most interesting of all to me were the buildings themselves and their history. I had a lengthy chat with the guides there who were a wealth of information about the history of Palmyra and the surrounding area.

“I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the HISTORIC PALMYRA MUSEUM!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

I am not sure where I got the brochure about these museums, but I found it a couple of weeks ago and decided to stop in Palmyra while driving across the state today. I went into four buildings: the main museum, the old store, the old printshop and the newer depot building. The store was the highlight.....stepping through the door is like being in a time machine..............everything is authentic including the eggs that were sitting in a box when the owner decided to close the store.
I strongly recommend putting this on your NEW YORK TRAVEL Bucket List!!!!

“Five museum buildings with excellent museum interpreters”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

The Historic Palmyra Museum is a collection of five buildings including the main museum building, the Alling Coverlet Museum, An Erie Canal barge depot, Phelps General Store, and print shop. There is something for everyone in the museum's buildings. If you like looking at antiques and hearing well told stories about their origins, you will be in for a treat. The museum interpreters are well voiced in the history of Palmyra and the museum collection.

If you want to liven up (sorry for the pun) your tour a bit, ask your museum interpreter about the spiritual history of Palmyra and the ghosts who sometimes make appearances in the museum buildings and around Palmyra.

If you are short on time be sure not to miss the Alling Coverlet Museum and the Phelps Store.

Photography is allowed in the museum.
