“Book this Bed and Breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2008

Heading to the area for a local music festival, we wanted to find a place in the mountains to spend a romantic weekend together. We chose the right place! Michael and Christine were very accomodating, making us feel welcome and cared for right from the start! They helped us find exactly what we were looking for -- some hiking, tasty dinner spots, and shopping in the nearby towns. Our room, the American, was cute, clean, and comfortable! Michael and Christine seem to have a real passion for this wonderful escape and undying energy! We hope to be back next year, and want to try all the different rooms!
Breakfast was delicious, too - thank you Michael!

Excellent guest house nestled in the Catskills. The owners could not have been more helpful, driving us to the start of some of the hiking trails as we had no car. The the accommodation was marvelous with individually styled rooms, tastefully done and very clean. The place had a very homely feel about it. Unfortunately I fractured my shoulder during my stay and the owners were fantastic driving me to medical emergency centre and waiting for me. I would recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone and hope I will be back again.

We had a great time at the Clark House! We were greeted right away by Mike and our room, the French Quarter, was just as pictured. The house itself is very well decorated and modern (we were afraid we'd end up at some dusty old b&b with tacky floral everything). Our room was very clean and the bathroom was cute with a claw foot tub. We utilized the outdoor hot tub both nights we were there and it was AMAZING. Living in the city, we never see stars so it was lovely to sit back in the tub and gaze at a clear, starry sky. The Clark House sits on a beautiful 4 acres of land and we got a chance to tromp around in their huge back yard and take a walk through the woods to a little creek. Mike and Christine were very accommodating and gave great tips on places to hike and eat. They also make a delicious breakfast -- the farthest thing from continental breakfast you'll ever eat! We spent a night at the pub across the street with the locals and took a short walk on our last morning to the Palenville swinging wood bridge (we recommend both).

There were a few downsides, but we still loved our weekend getaway and enjoyed our first b&b experience. Here are some of the mini problems we had:

-The tub has a shower attachment, but you basically have to shower sitting in the tub because there is no curtain in the setup.

-The house is located at an intersection so you can hear some traffic (in case you wanted the silent nature escape).

-As is the case with most b&bs, the rooms are very closely located. We could hear the guy in the next room shower and blow his nose. The b&b would probably be at its maximum "romanticness" during the week when there are less people staying there.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Clark House as our base for looking at properties in the area. We found their bed and breakfast to be everything as advertised on their website--and more. The house was beautifully appointed, cozy, and welcoming, with a fire in the parlor. Each room has a different theme, and ours was fantastic. We were in the Sea Room, a large room in the back, with a view of the mountains and the fabulous old barn. The bed, the linens, the expansiveness of the room and the gas fireplace really made us feel as if we were far away from NYC. But Mike and Christine were what made Clark House the treasure that it is. Their European charm and warmth made us feel like friends, not just guests. They have a top-notch food pedigree, having worked in NYC restaurants and it shows--the breakfast was a knock out: amazing 3 cheese omelet, homemade cakes, fruits, served on funky old china. Mike was there when we arrived, offering wine, restaurant recommendations and great chat. Christine was also very friendly and makes a lot of the soft furnishings in the home herself, a lovely touch. We will definitely return.

We've never written an on-line review before, but the Clark House was so wonderful that we wanted to tell everyone about it!! We'll start out by saying that we had a Caribbean honeymoon just a few months ago, but we found our weekend at the Clark House even more relaxing!! The innkeepers, Michael and Christine, are the BEST! They were incredibly responsive to questions before the weekend, and they helped us plan lots of great activities once we were there too (they put together a book of all the fun nearby activities for the weekend). They create such a warm, comfortable atmosphere, and the breakfasts are fantastic! Michael greeted us the moment we pulled up, and helped us in with our bags (even though we arrived much later than planned). Our favorite was when Christine came into the living room Sunday afternoon and offered us a glass of champagne while we were sitting around the living room chatting. The house is beautiful, clean, and cozy - and filled with hospitality. We wound up booking the Asian Room (the room that looks Red on the website) - it was actually our last choice when we were booking, but we wound up LOVING it. It was comfortable, spacious, and adorably decorated! With Michael and Christine's help in planning, we went on a fantastic hike just a 15-minute drive away; went to an apple harvest and pumpkin festival; rode a chairlift up Hunter Mountain to overlook the Hudson valley; and also spent a lot of time just relaxing around the house (try the hammock for two out back!). Also, don't forget your swimsuit because going in the hot-tub under the stars can't be beat!!

Our hosts,Christine and Michael, made us feel welcome and pampered from the moment we parked our car. We stayed in the spacious and comfortable "sea" themed room with a great view of the Catskill's North Mountain. Our private bathroom was small but sparkled and had all the amenities one could want, from toiletries to terrycloth robes.
Our bountiful breakfast of eggs, fish, meats, cereal, breads, dairy and fruit in the large dining room of this lovely victorian style home was a feast for the eyes, with its warm and interesting decor, as well as the stomach.
Situated in the Catskill Mountains, just a short drive from the city of Catskill to the east and Hunter Mountain to the west, a lovely, small waterfall down the street and a golf course around the corner; we found the location quite convenient. Sadly, we did not have time to try the inviting hot tub on the deck overlooking the mountains. Next time!
