I had reviewed this restaurant several weeks ago and gave it a poor rating due to the bad food and service we received. Since then, I have talked with the General Manager/Chef and he invited us to come back when he was cooking and revisit their establishment (he wasn't there the first time). I am happy to report that the food and service was excellent this past weekend and decided to write a new (and improved) review. On our visit Friday night, we were pleased to see a full crowd and not an empty restaurant like we had seen in the past. The background music was more to our taste than loud country-western music. Our waitress did a fine job serving us without being overbearing. She provided us with the food in a pleasing manner and made sure we had extra rolls and beverages. Last time, we found the food was so bad, that we left half of it on our plates. Not so, this time. I had the salmon and it was moist and flakey in a garlic and capers sauce. I love salmon and they cooked it perfectly. My wife had the fillet again and it was cooked to her taste (medium) and was very good. Not tough as leather like she had on our first visit. They even served us with steak knives this time; not butter knives. There was a crabcake on her plate with cheese on top which made it soft. We prefer a crusty coating on our crabcakes, but these were fine. We had the bacon-wrapped scallops to start off with and they were tasty. In fact, I could have eaten a dozen of them alone. Our salad was much better as it was more than just Iceberg lettuce. It was crispy and fresh along with the salad dressing. The rolls were hot and they even gave us butter this time (we didn't get any previously). We had the ice tea for our beverages and enjoyed the "hint of mint" in the drinks. We ended up with two desserts, my wife had the Andee (candy) mint chocolate pie and I had the strawberry cheesecake. The pie was very tasty and the cheesecake was huge. It was covered with strawberries and very, very filling. I wasn't sure whether the strawberries were fresh or not, I don't think they were. .We left stuffed and glad we came back. We will try their burgers in a future visit and see how they taste. I had written this review immediately after I got home, but tripadvisor doesn't allow second reviews to take place for 30 days. So, I deleted the first review and wrote this one in its place. We discovered that the 1881 Steakhouse is one of Oswego's better restaurants and I hope others will try it out sometime. Thanks, Steve for listening to us. We wish you the best with your new restaurant.
