“A Secret Jewel on the Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2009

My husband and I recently spent our 4th of July vacation on Long Island for the first time. We stayed at a lovely establishment called the Orient Inn. We had a fabulous time! This B&B is tucked away on the North fork. You are situated between Orient State Park (approximately 15 minutes away by car) and Orient Village, which is a quaint community of restaurants and small specialty shops. This area of the island is very bike friendly so we would encourage people to rent bikes in order to take in the full beauty of the area.
Because the beach is very accessible (20 minutes away by bike), we went everyday stayed on the island. Every morning my husband and I were treated to a fantastic homemade breakfast. The owners - Joan and Howard - were very gracious. They were so accomodating and went out of their way to make us feel at home. My husband and I have been to many B&Bs and we would rate the Orient Inn as one of our top three choices. We highly recommend staying at this establishment. We plan to return again in the near future.

This is an excellent inn. The owners are wonderful - very welcoming and accommodating - even down to the water bowl and dog cookie they had placed in our room for our dog when we got there. This really is a great classic inn - and a great place to escape for a few days. Their dog Flower is so cute - and definitely take your breakfast on the lovely front porch. Its a great way to enjoy a wonderful breakfast that is freshly prepared as you plan you day of visiting vineyards. This is a small inn - but we had a very nice private bathroom, very nice linens, robes, and a comfy bed.

We have been to several B&B's and 5 star hotels, at by far the Orient Inn is the best. It has all the charm and romance of a B&B with the same luxurious feel of a 5 star hotel. It was our honeymoon weekend and we were greeted in our room with a bottle of champagne and fresh cut flowers from the garden. The room, as well as the whole house was clean and crisp. The decor and style was polished and elegant. The owner kept the integrity of the house built in 1906 but updated it in just the right ways to make it comfortable and contemporary. The beds were comfortable and we woke up feeling refreshed and restful. The bedroom and private on suite bath was the perfect backdrop to a romantic evening. The breakfast that we woke up to was probably the best meal we had ever had. Joan the owner / innkeeper was friendly, warm, and knowledgeable. The grounds were beautiful and picturesque. We highly recommend staying here while visiting the wineries, kayaking or just looking for a romantic getaway. We plan on going back as soon as we can.

I brought my sister to the inn as part of a 50th BD celebration. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the quaintness and peacefulness of the inn. Joan & Harold were delightful as was Flower their adorable dog. Breakfast was absolutely delicious in a cozy dining room with a fireplace going on a cool May morning. The owners gave us excellent info on nearby sites. We had such a lovely time, I plan on coming back with my husband.

The Orient Inn is a beautiful relaxing country retreat right near the water, gorgeous nature trails and country roads. The rooms were serene and the perfect combination of luxury and country. The house itself was superb, and the food was healthy and delicious. The owner was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and made everything very easy to take care of. Perfect weekend!

My husband called to make an arrangement to stay at this Inn and from the website, we thought it was just an Inn, not a Bed and Breakfast place that don't allow babies and kids. Anyway we go there and they are NOT happy that we have a 18 months old girl with us. We dropped off our bags in the room and went out for some food and when we came back an hour later, the owner told us that there's been complaints about our baby. It was a total lie. My girl has been in the room for less than 10 minutes and all we did was dropped off our bags! Long story short, they asked us to leave and we agreed, telling them we felt bad we didn't know we couldn't bring a toddler. We didn't want to bother anyone either so we left the place and it was CLEAR that the owner wasn't going to charge us since we have to pay for another room to stay that night. She said " I won't charge you but you have to leave now. Just LEAVE NOW". Then a week later I see a charge on my amex card for $250.00 from Orient Inn. I tried to fight it through Amex but it was just my word against theirs so we never got our money back. They have written untruthful stories about my kid to Amex and I couldn't believe all the lies they said!
Oh and I was 7 months pregnant at the time of the incident. The owner was very rude, arrogant and dishonest.

We stayed at the Orient Inn for three nights in mid-Spring and were surprised and delighted at every turn. The Inn is lovely, with a cozy den, a comfortable living room with tea service and a piano, and charming bedrooms. The friendly and engaging owner welcomed us into a home full of fresh flowers with marvelous books on the shelf and the work of local artists on display. The aesthetics of the Inn are exquisite, a feast for the soul. The food amazed us. We have stayed at many B&B's and the breakfast here was beyond compare, truly delicious. We started dreaming of bringing our friends to stay (there are five rooms), hosting a reunion of some kind, getting married again, anything to share the magic of this place.
