“Chasing Waterfalls - Eternal Flame Falls”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

Chestnut Ridge Park is a wonderful place to visit. Its crowning glory, I think, is Eternal Flame Falls at the southernmost portion of the park. (You have to drive past the main entrance to Seufert Rd.)
It is a long creekwalk but worth the effort. There is a lovely waterfall at the end of the hike with a natural gas jet behind the water. One can light the flame with a lighter. Chestnut Ridge Park, itself, is worth the visit. It has the usual county park amenities, picnic facilities, restrooms, hiking trails, disc golf, playgrounds, tennis courts, etc. There are several very small waterfalls in the park as well. Another activity one can enjoy there (as well as several other parks in the area) is orienteering. The Buffalo Orienteering Club puts up makers for you to find. You can purchase a map at Hyatt's locations. It's kind of like a treasure hunt in the woods.

The flame is well worth the hike from the parking lot and putting it out and relighting it was extremely satisfying. haha
(I recommend following the path.)

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

My family and I went to on a hike to see the eternal flame, the kids were thrilled! It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day. It was quite a hike but it sure was worth it! The beautiful water flowing down the rocks was a wonderful sight and sound. If you ever get the chance to go on this hike and see the amazing eternal flame GO DO IT.

“great for families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Great hike for famililies - I have brought my kids when they were preschoolers with no problem. Hike is about 1.5 hrs round trip if you take your time and enjoy nature. Wear shoes that you can get wet as you will be following a creek for part of the hike. Off street parking is available at the Chestnut Ridge Road entrance, you can also hike from the main part of the park but it is a longer hike. Trail is well marked.

“Up there with wonders of the world.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

It is best described by seeing it yourself. Well worth the adventure. Nature at its best. The hiking is mild to moderate. The scenery and smell of the woods is breathe taking. There is a variety of plant life to explore. When friends and family visit, this should definitely be a place to bring them. Anytime if the year is a great time to go. The eternal flame itself makes for a great photo shoot. Eternal memories;). After the hike, make your way over to the Chestnut Ridge park for a picnic. A secret wonder in our own backyard. A must see!
