This is a great B&B just a short drive (10-15 min) to Gore Mountain for skiing. (We found it through a link on Gore's website for area lodging.) Peg and Barry Mix -- two genuinely nice people -- fully renovated this historic house. On the first floor, there's a large comfortable, Adirondack-style tv-family room with fireplace; quieter Victorian-style sitting room; and large dining rm, and the Mix's kitchen, where Peggy prepares her multi-course breakfast that can almost get you through a full day of skiing. We arrived late -- about 10:30 p.m. -- and Peggy and Barry were unfazed and welcomed us with hot cocoas. Our two teenagers shared the bedroom with two twins, and we shared a room with a full, though next time, we'd take the room with a king, to get a little more space to move around. They have two friendly dogs, but don't take guest dogs, to avoid unhappy canine interactions. Baths are in the hall, but there are enough of them. Rooms were quiet; mattresses were comfy; heat and hot water were plentiful. Their web-site presents an accurate picture of the place. Olmstedville is a little hamlet with a fancy restaurant, which we didn't try, and a "family style" restaurant, which we did and was ok. There's also a general store. We didn't cross-country ski, but other guests were there to do that. This would also be a good base in the summer for hiking the Adirondacks.
