“Good service but coffee pretty average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

This is a morning coffee and fruit scone review only I have to say.

Set inside the extensive premises of the indoor antiques and fine art centre at Abernyte between Dundee and Perth.

Extremely obliging service in clean and pleasant surroundings with an unusual 'outdoor feel' to this indoor antiques market....

Unfortunately the coffee which came how I had asked for it was fairly tasteless - the fault of the brand I suspect - and the fruit scone was crumbly and difficult to eat and had two sultanas or raisins in it max. A pity really for what is a captive audience.

The all day breakfasts and lunches looked worth a try sometime.

“Even better under new management”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

The almost secret cafe at the Abernyte antique centre has always been a good place for morning coffee, a light lunch or afternoon tea, but now it has been refurbished to resemble the dining room of an upmarket hotel, and more hearty meals are also available. Four of us had a Saturday breakfast which set us up until our evening meal. The "Bacon Breakfast" (other breakfasts are available) consisted of two good sized, tasty rashers of grilled back bacon, a generous portion of obviously freshly made creamy scrambled egg, and an equally generous portion of sauteed mushrooms. Service was friendly and efficient, except that our toast arrived before the plates and cutlery (probably because I confused the system and asked for the coffee first) and the toast was not as warm as it might have been by the time we were equiped to eat it.
We went back after spending a couple of hours looking around the antique center itself, and had teas with a really tasty ginger and honey cheesecake. So good that two of us bought portions to take home.
Although we did not try it, I noticed that there was a proper roast lunch available.
