My husband and I rented a one bedroom cabin for 3 nights- the cost $670.00. I feel we were way over charged for what we recieved. I dont think the floors had been swept or moped all summer. The bathroom floor was begining to sink down and water would seep up from the cracks when you walked on it. There was mouse turds on the kitchen floor next to the stove, and the front porch had 2 dumpy chairs on a dirt covered floor. Not to mention all the spider webs behind every thing. I complained to the managment and someone came and moped the floors. One day when we were out, we came back to an empty dresser, and our medicine and a few other things were missing,we went to the managment and told them, some one had been sent to clean out the cabin next to ours and cleaned out the wrong one. We were not given a discount or any kind of reimbursement for our hardship. I think the management should spend some money fixing up the place and make sure it is clean. We have stayed at alot nicer places for alot less money. We did have alot of fun at the Tap room---but not $670 worth! Go to the Big Moose Inn-its clean and kept up nicely.

This hotel has a great location on a lake. However, we stayed in a room that looked out on their garbage, next to their kitchen for their bar (which is open late with Karaoke on Friday nights.) We left the air conditioner on so that we wouldn't be disturbed by the music. The air conditioner sounded like it was on its last legs, making loud cracking noises in the middle of the night.

The cobwebs at the place were shocking. The bed was old and hard. The furniture was shabby and old -- a bedspread thrown over the couch was not clean. Unfortunately, the nearly $300 room was so horrible that we could never go back.

  • Liked — The location near the lake
  • Disliked — The shabby room

Northwoods is where our son and (now) wife picked for their wedding dinner/dance and where most people stayed. Everyone had a fantastic time. Diane (owner) is absolutely the best. Never have we had someone go to such great lengths to make sure we all were happy. What a hard-working woman. And she helped out with the wedding planning, made very helpful suggestions, helped making sure details were done/taken care of...what didn't she do?!!! I will always appreciate the work ethic and care she took in making this all happen smoothly and perfectly, all done with a smile on her face! Thank you, Diane.

  • Liked — Everything but the owner's determination to make this perfect was exceptional!
  • Disliked — Everything was perfect!

We stayed there this past summer and our experience was the worst. My child really hurt himself and required medical attention because of the poor maintenance of this inn. My child went to reach for the rails (ones that could have prevented my sons injuries) that were supposed to be there. If the railing had of had the rails that go up and down the stairs; my son would NOT have been injured on our first vacation. The day we arrived and entered the room we found dirty clothing on the floor and in plain view sight.

This hotel is depressingly dirty and dingy, the owners are surprisingly rude (wouldn't you think you'd be pretty happy living on a lake in the Adirondacks!). :)

But, perhaps worst of all, the owners didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with booking someone into a room where they couldn't sleep...the room was directly above a bar with a band open until 2am!!!

If you want to enjoy some time in this beautiful area steer far away from The North Woods Inn. The Woods Inn down the road is lovely as are the Clayton Cottages about 4 miles away.

  • Liked — It is on a beautiful lake. But, so are all the other much nicer hotels in the area.
  • Disliked — The noise and the owners.

Our family has just held a reunion at North Woods, and I would highly recommend it as a great site for such events. We will definitely book our next reunion there. The location is second to none, right on Fourth Lake, and views of the lake abound from every location on the property. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. If you like the Adirondack woods/lake atmosphere, this is the perfect spot.

Old Forge, NY-Comfortable and Fun at Woods Inn
August 4, 2006
My family-2 young boys 5 & 7 yrs old,my brother, husband and I travelled from NM to go to my cousin's wedding and didn't know what to expect, kind of crossed our fingers and was so pleasantly surprised.
We stayed in 3 rooms between us.The boys had the bunk bed room adjoining mine. It was clean, cozy and so interesting in a good way. There were porches and balconies overlooking 4th Lake, adirondack chairs along the shore and a tap room below the main area of the Inn. We played pool, ate a great breakfast bar each morning and always looked forward to coming back from our day.
If you are looking for comfort, cleanliness and having an all around fun time with your family,Woods Inn compliments this. A beautifully renovated historic Inn I would come back to.
