Came out to Oceanside with a group of 8 after a different Joe's Crab Shack gave us a 1 1/2 hour wait time. We called ahead to this one and they said we could be seated right away. Upon arriving we actually had to wait a few minutes but that was nothing major - much better than waiting 90 minutes! Our table was actually a large picnic table in what might be an outdoor seating area in good weather - at first cold from the AC but it eventually warmed up. Our servers (1 being a trainee) were attentive and enthusiastic. At least on that night, you got the feeling that the servers enjoyed their job.
The food was outrageously good. You might have to wait longer than you typically do in a different restaurant, but perhaps that depends on what you order and how many people you have - there were two classic steampots among our orders. The classic steampot is filled with crab (2 kinds), corn, baby potatoes, and sausage - all seasoned, delicious, and fresh. I had not had fresh Dungeness crab since visiting San Francisco 9 years ago - tasting it out of the steampot took me right back. It was that good. You might have to or want to take some home in a bag.
Prices might be a little high, but again, it depends on what you order. I would just come anticipating spending a little more than usual.
