“Our favorite place on Fire Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

We cannot say enough positive things about The Blue Waters Hotel. The staff goes out of their way to help with every need. Karen and Elaine are always available to answer questions or help find a beach chair, umbrella, towels, extra linens, anything that is desired!!
This was our second stay and we booked already for next summer. Harvey is just wonderful and warm and always willing to help as well. His rooftop deck is so serene, with beautiful plants everywhere. We loved starting our day with early morning coffee there and a sunset cocktail to kick off the evening. Our room was clean and the linens fresh. The location is also perfect being right in town, very convenient to all. Looking forward to summer 2012 at The Blue Waters!

Stayed at one of Blue Waters family of properties, The Bay House, which is apartment style. It 's our second time at Bay House and third with Blue Waters. The management is very friendly, efficient and always willing to accommodate any requests you may have. We stay in the apartments because we're a family of 4 and they provide plenty of room and comfort. All of Blue Waters properties are well maintained, clean and situated perfectly around F.I. We're always greeted with a warm welcome and leave saying, "See ya next year!!" For consistency, value and variety, you can't go wrong with Blue Waters - Highly Recommend!

Our family was good enough to arrange a 3 night stay for our 35th wedding anniversary.
The front staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel provides sand chairs, umbrellas and beach towels at no additional cost. The room was simple but clean. The deck on the roof was very nice to enjoy a cup of coffee or look at the stars. Fire Island is a very relaxed atmosphere and if you are expecting a five star hotel, Fire Island should not be your destination. It is a beautiful spot to enjoy the beach and sunsets. We will definitely go back!

A friend of mine came out to Fire Island from NYC after we sent her an invite. We were staying at Ocean Bay Park and the only rooms available were at Blue Waters Hotel in Ocean Beach (NOW I KNOW WHY!) So we walked in the puddles and the rain to visit them in Ocean Beach. We had lunch and drinks at the Landing and then decided to head to the beach. We went up to their room as they gathered their things for the beach and we headed back out right after we were asked to leave since we were not registered guests. Once we were done with the beach we went back to their room to drop their beach gear off. We each had a drink while we were waiting. There was two of them and three of us. The hotel told us we had to get out. We let them know we were just getting our things together and we would be out shortly. Well I guess we did not get out fast enough because they kicked us all out and told my friends they could not stay the night they were booked for. We could NOT BELIEVE they were kicking our friends out telling them they cannot stay. We are all over the age of 35. It was 6pm in the evening. We were not making a lot of noise, we were not keeping guests up at 4-5am in the morning. We were there for maybe a half hour before they kicked us all out.

My husband tried to speak to the awful woman behind the counter. She is NOT a happy person. When he asked for her name she said she wasn't giving it to him and they called the cops on him to file a report. My husband told the guy he was going to the cops with him because he did nothing wrong. I went to the station with him and the cops were apologizing to us. They thought the hotel people were ridiculous! They shook our hands and sent us on our merry way.

The room was small and it smelt like mildew. $500 a night on the weekend???? Are they INSANE?????? They DID NOT clean the next day. We stayed at the Seashore Condo in Ocean Bay park. It was very nice, clean, 2 bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom which fit up to 6 people for $400 a night. We also had use of the BBQs and could have visitors there without a problem.

Don't even bother looking into this place. If you want to be watched like a hawk and be told you can't do this or that then maybe this is the place for you. Too many rules at this place it's not enjoyable at all!!!!

My friends and I booked 4 rooms at Blue Waters back in March. The price they quoted us suddenly changed a week before our trip was planned to happen. Plus, they added in all of these additional deposits and costs. BE AWARE of the $15/room cleaning service they ask you to pay and then THEY DON'T CLEAN YOUR ROOM. If they ask you to pay this money, make sure they are cleaning your room. They wouldn't even give us clean towels or take out our garbage. The door in our room was broken too and wouldn't lock.

They made us pay a large security deposit that was to be kept by the hotel if we smoked on their property. Three times throughout the trip they tried accusing us of smoking just so they could keep our deposit. We didn't have ANY smokers with us. It was absurd! We even overheard the 2 women talking at the front desk about ways to keep our deposit because we were 'too loud'. We were loud because their walls are made of tissue and they were standing right outside of our door!

The property is in a nice location and Harvey is totally sweet. The rooms were clean enough and an okay size. The communal fridge was helpful and the outdoor deck is really pretty.

Check-out was a nightmare. I would recommend checking out at 10am, because by 10:30am there is a line down the hall and only one person helping at the front desk (and they don't use computers - they use a very sophisticated Post-It system).

We spent the weekend on fire island with 7 other couples for a birthday weekend and we all stayed at the Blue Waters Hotel. The staff was okay and gave us chairs for the beach. Rooms vary in size. some rooms are good and some are not very good. The deck is very nice to lie out on, and eat a meal, as well
as for early night drinks. The 10
o'clock closing of the deck is
frustrating and I think they should
consider making it midnight instead.
Last thing worth noting, I must
admit the place is very clean when
you get there, however, they don't clean your room while you're there.
That being said, I would absolutely
stay at the Blue Waters Hotel again,
as the hotel offers the perfect
location nestled in the heart of town. You are steps from the bars
and the ferry. Relative to other
hotels on fire island, I felt blue
Waters was a good value overall.

The location for town shopping and bar hopping at night is great and the Seasons bed and breakfast has a nice breakfast spread in the am. Rooms are fire island rooms- small, bare, but a place to crash. The people running this place don't seem to know much about hospitality as a business. They told friends there was no pullout bed in their sofa in the Bay House, when actually there was (mind you, my friend told her husband to stay behind bc they thought there was no room). The women at the front desk are pretty unhelpful, one in particular seems bothered to deal with people. They let you store your bags when you check in our out if your room isn't ready or you're not leaving yet, but don't ask for help as to where to put your bag, eesh! But they will tell you where you CAN'T put it. Gratuity added to the bill up front for no apparent reason. Location, location, location is the best part of this place.
