The Doubletree Club in North Syracuse isn't the greatest place to stay, but it's your best bet in a location where the other hotels are pretty bad. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and secure even if the hotel has some other problems that make it less than ideal. Many of the rooms have large windows that overlook an atrium which contains the pool area and the bar/restaurant. When there are a lot of people in the atrium, the noise echoes up through the rooms. To avoid this the last time we stayed we asked for a nonsmoking room with an outside window. When we got there it reeked of smoke and there were ashtrays on the tables. Returned to the front desk and were told that yes, that was a nonsmoking room, but if we didn't want it there were rooms available off the atrium. So much for peace and quiet! The pool / hot tub area is clean and attractive but could be better supervised. The hot tub area is supposed to be off-limits to very young children, but attendants don't seem to enforce this rule. Food is OK, if you can find someone to serve you. The hotel seems to be chronically understaffed. On our last visit we called room service repeatedly and got no answer, so finally walked out to the cafe in the atrium. There was nobody there either, so we got a drink at the bar and waited. Fifteen or twenty minutes later someone finally arrived... turned out that one unfortunate person was handling both room service and the cafe area. If you want speedy service and you're not too tired to leave the hotel for dinner, our advice is to eat out.
