We loved the design of the villa but thought the soft furnishings inside the villa were showing signs of wear.
We really liked the terrace, its furnishings and the Jacuzzi although we hadn’t realised just how overlooked the pool would be. This wasn’t a problem for us but we felt the photos didn’t present a totally accurate image of the villa surroundings. The Jacuzzi was fine for the three of us but I’m not sure six people would fit in it comfortably.
It was extremely humid in the villa much of the time, especially in the master bedroom – no doubt on account of the hot tub (this was with the hot tub doors closed). This would have been very unpleasant in warmer weather.
The kitchen was not as well equipped as we had expected, there being no toaster (only a sandwich maker), hob or washing machine. We did discover a washing machine located in the housekeeping closet but Brigitte seemed to suggest it wasn’t intended for the use of guests. This could be an issue for those who arrive expecting to be able to do all their own catering and laundry.
There were only three of us so we had enough space but we were glad our other two friends hadn’t joined us. They would have been disappointed to find the third bedroom had no privacy, no wardrobe or bathroom. In my view the villa is not really spacious enough for more than two couples and perhaps two teenagers.
It would have been really useful to have a set of instructions for all the appliances in the villa. The hot tub was too hot to use on the first two days and we had no idea how to control the temperature or add extra water. I rang Brigitte and she asked the maid to adjust the temperature. By Saturday it was too cold again so we were actually only able to use it for two out of the six days. There were a number of electrical switches where we couldn’t work out what they were for.
Internet access was flaky and slow and there was no printer or fax machine inside the villa itself – we didn’t actually need either machine but they were mentioned on a number of web sites advertising the villa.
We were very pleased with the airport pick-up service and appreciative of the kind help carrying the luggage. I couldn’t have managed my suitcase on those steps.
The car rental worked out perfectly for us – Harry was very efficient and helpful.
Light bulbs were not replaced in the villa when they failed and we couldn’t find a supply anywhere.
Maid service was rather patchy. Towels were often removed and not replaced. One day we were left with only one hand towel in one bathroom. We were though grateful to the maid for finishing off the washing up for us each day and generally tidying up the breakfast things. This was much appreciated.
Breakfast supplies were rather disappointing consisting only of juice, milk, bread (or rolls) and cake. We did have strawberry yogurt one day and chocolate croissants on another. However, we never saw the ham and cheese croissants or Greek yogurt mentioned on the web site. The only butter and Greek yogurt supplied was what we ordered for our arrival. I think most people would welcome more choice and would be happy to pay the actual cost each day – the cost is after all insignificant compared with the cost of renting the villa. It’s not about the cost but rather the convenience. We were glad we’d ordered ham and cheese to supplement the daily supplies.
There was nowhere comfortable to sit apart from at the dining table. The three “sofas” had no backs or arms – they were simply mattresses with scatter cushions and obviously intended primarily as extra beds. I’d have liked a proper sofa and/or armchairs where I could sit and read or watch TV.
The machinery in the cupboard of the bathroom to the master bedroom was very noisy for most of our stay. We weren’t entirely sure what its purpose was but wondered if it was heating the water for the hot tub.
I was tempted to say the villa didn't represent good value for money but as everything on the island is very expensive then in comparison with other properties it probably was good value.
Fira is a very busy town quite crowded when there's a cruise ship in port. If you're looking for somewhere quiet I'd suggest Imerovigli or Oia instead. Oia has the best views of the sunset.
There are wonderful jewellery shops all over the island.
The roads are narrow and poorly signposted so allow time for getting lost when you go out exploring.
One of the island's best restaurants is about 50 metres from the villa: KOUKOUMAVLOS.
The view from the terrace was fantastic. The best thing about the villa is being able to relax on the terrace with a glass of wine and to soak up the view.
