The Majestic was a let down.. a complete let down!
I recently stayed at the Majestic expecting 5 star luxury, as promised by the website blurb! Unfortunately, 5 star luxury is not being offered! To begin with, having arrived after a full days travel, at 8 in the evening, a dip in the pool would have been in order. Unfortunately the pool closes at 7.30 pm. This was so as not to 'annoy' the diners who eat by the pool in the evening. However, of the five nights at the Majestic, the only poolside dinners being served were on the final night! It was very disappointing that the management were not flexible enough to allow swimming outside the normal operating hours (8 am to 7.30 pm).
This set the scene for the rest of the week... the rooms are adequate, but not luxurious. An environmental policy of towel use published is not followed; I like to my bit, but we got clean towels everyday. A buffet breakfast was served from 7.30 am, all hot food was cold, even when arriving at 7.30. There was a good choice of buffet food though! Room service? Only up until 11.00 pm! Staff issues? Some evenings at the pool bar (the only bar I could find) there were more staff drinking than there were clients. One evening, while sat at the bar, I could have sworn I saw a gerbil running along the wall. My travelling companions said it was a rat. Whatever, it was an unwelcome guest in such a salubrious place!
The manager could only be found during the morning – prowling from behind the foyer curtains. His sole preoccupation of glaring at guests in the foyer and having cars moved from the front of the hotel seemed to take up all of his time (if you rent a car through the hotel, be advised that the hotel has the ability to move it if you park the car where the manager does not want it, even if you are holding the keys. Something to bear in mind when there is a ‘new’ scratch on it!). I also believe that there are a lack of staff at the hotel.. sometimes it about hunt the assistance. The hotel is well situated for easy access into Fira without the noise and bustle of the ‘Greek Blackpool’, but its position is nothing like that the website / brochure photographs give the impression of!
Some of my comments seem trivial, but when you pay top price, you expect could value and service – none of which you get from the Majestic. Go to the El Greco next door… it looked far better and you can use the pool(s) after 8 pm!
