Our recent visit to Asteras Villas was nothing short of perfect. I felt as though we were visiting family. We were welcomed with open arms and made to feel at home the entire stay. We were traveling with our two children (10 and 14) and felt very safe allowing them to explore the island. The hotel provides picture perfect views from every deck. The first few nights we were there the other rooms were empty so we were able to see each room, they were all equally attractive! The steps down to the rooms can be exhausting but that's the price you pay for staying on the edge of a cliff! I would definately stay here again, the room, the view, and the staff made this one of the best vacations ever!

My wife and I arrived in Santorii with a reservation from Expedia for another hotel. Unfortunately, our hotel never received the reservation, and Expedia was worse than unhelpful (they did not find me a room, and would not even reimburse the phone call to them when I arrived without my confirmed room and sought help). Luckily, the staff at the first hotel was able to call around and find a room available due to a cancellation at the Asteraqs Villas. The room was #5, a very large room dug into the rock. While we had to go outside and upstairs for our wonderful view, we were grateful to have any room at that point. Diana was beyond helpful. Her attentiveness to guests is reason alone to rank this hotel extremely highly. The room was very clean and comfortable. The location was perfect, and the room rate offered on site was extremely reasonable. We had a real feeling of community from the hotel staff, as well as the adjacent cafe, which offered us tea in the evening on the way down to our room. The staff at Asteras Villas went out of their way to be helpful, and it was wonderful to talk to them and learn a bit about routine life in Santorini.

I arrived with my girlfriend to Santorini, Fira at 7:00am during the peak season. Ms. Diana( manager of Asteras) arranged our transfer from the airport and we had a short walk to the the hotel as I looked over the wall i saw our hotel and knew we picked the right spot. Ms. Diana greeted us and let us know the room would be ready by 1pm so we walked around, exchnaged money, and had a drink which is all within 30 seconds of Asteras. There are other hotels in the area however with the location and the amount of stairs at other places Asteras was by far the best location and service of any hotel we came across. I met my parents there in Fira and they were booked at the Atlantis Hotel which is an okay property but the balconies are limited and if you are lucky to get a balcony at the Atlantis you will find it very small. We stayed in Suite #2 at Asteras the view and balcony were simply amazing. We picked Asteras villas because it reminded me of the 1985 movie Summer Lovers filmed in Santorini. Everything is within walking distance from Asteras and Ms. Diana is by far the best host in all of Santorini. It was my first time to Santorini however, we are well travelled and i have never liked a place as much as Fira, Santorini. The women, the wine (which is okay, Washington wines are better), and the Jewelry shopping Asteras in Fira is your best bet for relaxing. You can be as loud or as quiet as you want in Fira, but i do strongly recommend visiting during peak season and flying using Aegean Airlines one day in Athens is perfect also. Hope this helps.

The hotel is conveniently located in Fira, just a few steps down from the jewelry road. We paid 100 euros/night and because it was off season, we were upgraded to the suite. Diana at the reception desk was friendly and helpful. She even held our bags while we wait for the ferry to arrive. Diana also pointed us to one of the best restaurants (Nassau) and gyro pita place (Lucky's) in Fira. The hotel is very clean and spacious. After spending 3 nights at a dusty traditional house in Oia (Old Oia Houses), we were so glad to come here. We had a commanding view of the volcano from out balcony. The only problem is that there is a telephone pole that obstructs the view a bit. There's no pool here but we actually prefer that considering the impact a pool would have on the environment and the water shortage on the island.

Just got back from a 3 night stay in April 2004. It was a really great experience and we have no regrets about staying at Asteras Villas. The view was unbelievable. It is right on the caldera in Fira, steps from the main road (and fortunately not too many steps). We had a huge balcony, private in that it was only for our room, but not private in that people above and to the side can see you. It looked right into the volcano sea, with Oia to the right and Thirassia straight ahead, perfect sunset view. We spent a lot of time chilling on the balcony, reading and admiring the view--I think that getting a view is crucial and I would make that my number one requirement if I ever return to Santorini. If I come in the summer, maybe a pool too, which Asteras does not have. The room itself, well it was actually a house. We booked a double room which has a bedroom and then a living room, but the friendly, professional and cool manager Tasso (a young Greek educated in the states who speaks perfect English) upgraded us to the big cave villa. It was ridiculous. Bedroom with queen size bed, another bedroom with a double bed and a twin bed, and the living room with "kitchenette" (if you plan on doing a lot of cooking it would be inadequate, but it's great for making coffee). The bathroom with shower was pretty large and clean. There is a switch in your room that you have to flip up to get hot water, but I think many hotels in Santorini are like that. The hot water lasts about 20 minutes before it starts cooling off. This was my only real complaint about the place since I enjoy absurdly long showers. One more thing is that it gets really humid inside cave hotels in general. They try to combat this by having a dehumidifier in the rooms though. Breakfast was good: Greek yogurt and honey and an assortment of breads and jams. This hotel is rated as a 4-star...I think that's accurate for Greek hotels, but I would probably rate it a 3. It is again very clean and spacious, it just has that old look and feel I wouldn't associate with 4-star hotels (like older pine furniture, discolored moldings between tiles, rough towels--really nit-picky stuff). I would definitely stay here again.
Prime location in Fira. Excellent terraces with sunset views on the caldera. Reasonable rates (60 euro, off season).
