“Great location, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2009

Great hospitality in this small hotel. We had a room overlooking the caldera and what a view to wake up to!
Iannis is the perfect host, he is friendly, welcoming and a great guide to the many restaurants in Fira. He also offered us great advice on the activities we wanted to do.
We will definitely be back to enjoy the sunsets at hotel Keti!

This hotel has an incredible view. Yiannis, the hotel owner, is extremely helpful if you need suggestions where to eat, rent a car, ATV etc. Our room was extremely clean and very roomy. There is a sink and refrigerator which is great because you will want to sit on the terrace and have a drink. We bought fresh bread and olive oil and that was dinner on the terrace. The hotel does offer a service to pick you up at the airport and a continental breakfast. That's all I'm going to say about the hotel because the previous reviews already say what a good place it is to stay and it is and a good value. I believe Frommer's also suggests this as a hotel to stay.

I do want to mention that since this hotel is on a cliff there are stairs. There is one way to go with only about 100 stairs. These are not stairs that go straight down it is not as bad as it sounds but you may have to stop to catch your breath going up. There is another way to get to the hotel that has more than 100 stairs, again there are some alley ways and areas to rest that way. We went up and down the stairs two or three times a day so don't let this scare you. Just know there will be no one to take your luggage to the hotel and back up again.

Also, if you arrive at night make sure you ask how to get to the Hotel. Get directions from Yiannis before you leave home. I will give you what I remember, you will be dropped off at the Atlantis hotel take the stairway right behind the hotel (you should see the stairs right away) go all the way to the end (you will see bells) and take a right and you will see the Hotel Keti sign. This is the easiest way to the hotel.

In Fira there are many places to eat. For breakfast you may want the American -English breakfast offered otherwise juice, coffee or tea is al la carte and can be expensive. Fira is where all the cruise ships come in. It can get busy, during the day but you can plan to explore other areas of the Island. There are a lot of shops in Fira, but I suggest you walk outside of the area of the shops also. The views are spectacular and there are many photo opportunites of flowers, colored doors, terraces etc. Definitely go off the beaten path.

Rent an ATV. This is not as intimidating as you would think. Yes depending on where you go there are hairpin turns and traffic(but not that bad) and the cars and motorbikes will pass you, but it is so much fun and you can park them anywhere. We took the ATV to Kamira, one of my favorite beaches(the black sand beach with hotels and shops) and Oia (IA) where you should go to view the sunset. If you go to IA, work your way all the way over to the Windmills and there is a place to sit and have a drink and they offer desert, no dinner. It is a great place to sit and take pictures.

If you don't want to rent a car or ATV, there are buses. Only about 1.40 - 2 euros to get anywhere. Just know the bus back from IA, even after a couple of hours after the sunset will probably be crowded.

I also suggest Santorini sailing http://santorinisailing.com . We took the sunset cruise. There are no more than 12 people on the Catamaran and the Captain was the owner, Ted. This was great and he made dinner on the boat. We had a great group of people on our boat. They take you around part of the Island with several stops to go in the water and to the Hot Springs(Sulfur springs) and then they stay out so you can see the sunset which was spectacular.

Regarding the beaches, these may not be like a beach you are used to. Many are rocky and you need shoes to walk on them. They do have chairs and umbrellas on the beach to rent. It was worth it. It is only about six or seven euro depending on where you go.

Most people speak English and signs are in English.

Santorini is gorgeous. I was there for six days and I could of stayed longer. There were still areas of the Island I didn't get to.

The weather was just a little cool until about 9:30 a.m. and high 70's early 80's until the evening. It was a little cool in the evening depending on where you were. This was after September 15th.

Perched on the cliff edge in Fira above the Old Port, Hotel Keti has one of the best views in Santorini.

Like most hotels on the cliff edge you have to walk down (and up) many steps to get to Hotel Keti, but it is not far and the path is wide and well maintained.

We had a "Double Superior" room that was very large and had a small kitchenette (fridge, small stove burners, sink, and a few utensils and dishes) and a beautiful bath with a jacuzzi tub. The breakfast provided was adequate, with fresh fruits, cereal, juices, coffee/tea and pastries, but not the best in Greece (in our opinion that title belongs to the Portiani in Milos!).

Views of the caldera and Old Port from the terrace just outside our door were magnificent. We began each day there with coffee and ended most with with a glass of wine.

We stayed for three nights at Hotel Keti and loved every minute of it, including the stairs down and up. The location is ideal, the view unbeatable and the room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Our host was always helpful and gracious, and we couldn't have asked for more. We would definitely return to Hotel Keti.

We stayed in 5 hotels whilst in Santorini, and this one was dissapointing.

Positive points.
+ Great views (as with all hotels on the Caldera)
+ Clean

Negative points.
- I booked a transfer through the hotel, which picked up other passengers and then charged us the full rate for a private car. The hotel is reached by driving up a hill, and then walking down steps. The driver told us that he couldn't drive up the hill because it was one way, but I later found that he could have taken the next left, 50 metres away. He advised us that someone from the hotel would come to collect our bags, but after waiting for 10 minutes, we started to carry them up the hill ourselves. At the top of the hill, the manager came out and carried my wife's bags down the steps to the hotel. Upon first appearances, he was friendly and helpful.

- The cost of the hotel was €243, but he put €343 into the credit card machine. When I pointed this out, he said that it was a typing mistake. I could not understand however why he wrote €343 on his copy also. A mistyping I can understand, but a miswriting also?

- Upon leaving the hotel, I asked if he could help us to carry my wife's bags up the stairs because she was pregnant. He said that he could not because he could not leave the reception desk empty; this however did not seem to be an issue when he carried her bags down the stairs upon our arrival. When I explained that my wife was pregnant, he suggested that he could call someone to do it for €10. I therefore decided to make two trips and carry the bags (in the heat) myself.

We honeymooned in Greece for 3.5 weeks and Santorini was the first place we went. We stayed in the honeymoon suite at Hotel Keti and it was the perfect place to relax after the stress of our wedding and also the -very- long flight to get there. The person at the front desk (it was always the same person which was neat because you started to get to know him) was always very friendly and helpful. He had lots of suggestions for things that we do or places to eat etc. The hotel is also very near the bus station which is fantastic because the bus system on Santorini is superb - you can get anywhere on the island for 2 euro or less so having the drop off close by is nice. We really liked staying here and the view left us breathless.

Winding your way to find this hotel is worth it! This little place, once again, met our three c's - clean, close and cost effective! The staff were wonderful. The room and the view were truly spectacular! Don't forget to pick up your own coffee and breakfast snack.
