“Should be #1 hotel in Fira!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2007

First I want to say, if you take the high speed ferry to Santorini, BRING DRAMAMINE (motion sickness pills). Everyone got sick on our way there. It's better to be safe than sorry!

The Aressana was recently renovated and they did a great job! The rooms aren't huge but they were spotless and more modern than a traditional Greek decore. The bathrooms are brand new and have a real shower which is unheard of.
When you're looking over the cliffs, you can see most of the other hotels pools and the Aressana's pool is by far the biggest with plenty of sunbeds. Every morning there is a large complementary breakfast that helped start your day! The location of the Aressana was perfect! Although it doesn't offer direct views of the cliffs, all you do is what 2 minutes from the front door and there you are!

As for staying in the Fira area...I did a ton of research and being a single group of women and moms, the area was perfect...we didn't want to be surrounded by honeymooners. There was lots to do, tons of great restaurants and nightlife. The island is so small that you can travel to other areas by day but stay in Fira. So much shopping and soooo beautiful!

FOOD...This will sound funny but if you're craving some great pizza and Giro's, with a great view, check out Arcobaleno's Sunset Cafe Bar. It is further down from the Aressana but still only a 7 minute walk. Another great place for dinner is the Alemos (I may be spelling it wrong), across from the Iriana door (2 minutes from the Aressanna) above the stores. You had to walk through a small breezeway/hallway to see the posted menu and the entrance. The staff was so nice and the food was really good. STAY AWAY from the Sphinx. It was horrible! The wait staff was unattentive, the food was pre-prepared, hence the "no substitutions" and plus it came out all to quickly. It was completely overpriced and the portions were tiny. You received 2, yes that's right, 2 ravioli's with a side of risotto that wasn't bigger than a ice cream scoop. We got a chuckle watching the expressions of others getting their meals. We had the chicken and asparagus with pasta. The portion wasn't bad but was pre-made.
Fira was great. I'm glad we didn't stay in Kamari. At 90+ degrees, I can't imagine how hot the black sand beaches would have been although I'm sure if was beautiful.

  • Liked — Clean and close to everything. Excellent rates too!
  • Disliked — Room decor was boring.

Great hotel and a very special front desk staff, very kind and helpful. The room was renewed very comfortable and carefully clean. The breakfast was wonderful and the location is excellent ,in a quiet and small street near the main places.
There is no ocean or Caldeira's view but the hotel is still an excellent option if you are interested in a good stay.

Although the Aressana does not actually overlook the Caldera, it is only a few steps away and so is everything else- shops, restaurants, bus station and tour pick up point.
The rooms were very nice and a good size with cool tiled floors. Our room was only a few steps from the pool and the breakfast room where an excellent buffet was served.

  • Liked — Cool, comfortable & convenient
  • Disliked — The shower leaked

Great hotel, located in the heart of town. The front desk staff was very helpful as were all of the other staff members of the hotel. Breakfasts were the best we have had in all of our travels throughout Europe.

We stayed there in this hotel for 3 nights and were very comfortable. The rooms are large, bed was very comfortable and we had a jacuzzi in the bathroom. Each room opens into either a balcony or terrace. You can count the stars in Santorini's clear skies either from the bar or the beds next to the pool. The breakfast is very interesting since the menu changes daily and is filled with Greek specialities. The hotel is two minutes walk from the Caldera and the best restaurants in Santorini. The bus stop is also two minutes away and the cable car is 5 minutes walk. All very useful since Santorini tends to bring out the party animal!

We stayed for one week 15-22 May 2007. We had the honeymoon suite which had an outside jacuzzi. Hotel very central for restaurants and a few steps to the Caldera view and amazing sunsets. Very helpful staff. Good breakfast. Highly recommended.
