“Best Hotel in Santorini”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

The Aressana Hotel is the place to stay in Santorini. It's family owned and run by the nicest people who look after their guests and help them in every way to make their trip to that spectacular island the greatest pleasure. We have been to Santorini many times and always look forward to our stay at the Aressana. The Cycladic architecture of the many buildings that make up the hotel is a constant feast for the eyes. And the spa and pool wipe away all cares. On our most recent stay we were in a garden area where we had our own patio which was shielded from the intense noontime sun. We still had a good wi-fi connection to the Garden 2 network in our bungalow-type room which was not near the main reception area.

Maria, at the reception desk, and Anna, the hostess who will greet you upon arrival, always advised us where to go and where to eat and how to get where we wanted to go.

There are many places on Santorini to eat and enjoy the sunset, but do try a meal in the hotel dining room too. What's so great about the hotel dining facilities is their offering of real Greek food and local delicacies. Breakfast is a buffet filled with Greek "French" toast, great breads and fruits and juices, and, on Sunday, loukoumades (Greek doughnuts that are to die for).

The Aressana enjoys an excellent location. It is in Fira, the main town of the island, at the start of the knock-out road on the edge of the cliff looking out to the sea. There are shops and dining spots galore on this road. Across the street is the Greek Orthodox basilica and the Museum of Prehistory. One block down the hill is the bus depot to catch a bus to Akrotiri or to Oia.

Room Tip: Don't seek out a sea view, because it will be limited. Santorini's best views come outside o...

Aressana is in a fantastic location (right at the start of the main town of Fira) and offered us a wonderful experience in Santorini with its sense of comfort and luxury. The staff were all very helpful and kind. They were able to arrange for a rental car to meet us at our hotel, all ready for us. If you keep one overnight, due to limited parking options, you will have to park it down at the supermarket nearby. Very clean rooms, lobby, pool, and restaurant area. Breakfast was wonderful - a ton of options - all fresh, and delicious. Pool was nice, but in a fenced in area so don't expect a view of the Caldera like some of the other hotels offer. Good sized rooms - our group was in 1 single and 1 double, both were excellent. If I am every lucky enough to return to Santorini, I would definitely stay at Aressana again!

We stayed here for 5 nights in July 2013 - triple share in a Garden Suite.

Very well situated hotel with everything close by (restaurants, shops, bus etc)

Front desk staff are very helpful in arranged tours and answering any questions on island activities - Thank You Maria !!

Very nice pool area - although gets a little busy of an afternoon.
Amazing sun beds !!!

Breakfast has a large variety of very yummy food in a buffet serve yourself style !!!
A little slow on service and had to wait numerous mornings for a table to be available in peak breakfast times (I guess this is normal in the peak of summer). They would run out of clean glasses and you would have to wait 10-15 minutes just so you could pour yourself an orange juice.
Coffee is not on a serve yourself basis and you need to wait for a staff member to come around to serve you - many times we would be waiting over 20 minutes to get a coffee...which we prefer to drink while eating our breakfast...not after it.
Maybe it would be beneficial for the hotel to look at investing in some coffee machines were patrons can serve there own coffee ?

Spa massage was nice and relaxing, although not the best massage I have had.

Rooms were adequately cleaned every day. They even include a floor weight scale so that you can weigh yourself or your luggage ...this is FANTASTIC - in all my years travelling, I have never seen this in any of my hotel rooms (I have travelled to over 15 countries).
Although our scale was broken...apparently it said I had gained 20 kilos...which was not true...however, great idea of having a scale. Maybe get the scale replaced in the suite we stayed in.

I would highly recommend the catamaran sailing cruise day tour - we chose to do the slightly more expensive one which only had a small group of about 10 people. Fantastic seafood lunch and numerous stops to swim in the ocean.

Other than the minor issues mentioned above - I would 100% recommend staying at this amazing Hotel !

Stayed at Aressana in October for 3 nights, and had a fabulous experience. The hotel is in a great location, at the beginning of Fira town, right in the heart just off the Caldera. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Gave us great advice on the island, and helped us rent a car during our stay. Had a double room and one single (room 44 & 45). Very clean room and comfortable beds, and plenty of space in the room. You hear everyones reviews about breakfast etc, and think why is it such a big deal? After being here, you realize it does matter, a lot. This hotel has probably the best breakfast, if not best food, we had our whole trip. Fabulous food, tons of choices, and extremely fresh. Looked forward to it every morning. Pool was quite beautiful, and a nice spot to realx and get some sun. Pool was a little cold, as it is unheated, but we were also there in the off-season. Would absolutely stay at this hotel again, hands down.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the pool are always nice. Rooms on the backside have a nice view of east side o...

The ladyfriend(28) and I (30) stayed at this hotel for 7 nights, the last week in October (UK school half term). The hotel was ideally located in Fira, 30 seconds walk to some of the most stunning views I've ever seen. It was also 3 minutes walk from a local bus stop, with every attraction on the island accessible in 1hour or less for an average of £1.80 each way. Bargain! no need to hire a car, in our opinion.

We were greeted by the staff with a drink, after taken advantage of an arranged hotel transfer (bit expensive, but good peace of mind). The concierge was very accomodating and moved out bags to our room for us. Everything about the arrival, check in, etc was extremely relaxed and set the tone for the rest of the week. The host gave us a run down of the local area, sights, how to get around, where to eat and where not to eat. Very useful. Literally all the staff were always helpful, smiling, polite, and the bartender shook a mean cocktail.

The hotel itself is beautiful, plenty of nice places to sit and relax either indoor or outdoor. Food was mixed; an excellent lunch one day, then an average dinner another, but I guess it was low season and dinner was a night with a bare bones staff. Still a £25 fillet steak shouldnt be dry/tough. Breakfast by contrast was one of the best buffets Ive ever had; large selection of excellent local Greek breaskfasts, fresh fruit, hot and cold, excellent bread selection and some of the nicest fresh squeeze orange. Room was a lovely size, massive comfy bed, mini bar in the room with complimentary drinks. Each night there was also a turndown service and the staff brought round home made confectionary. Ive only seen things like that in 5* places previously...!

My only other complaint in a blissful week was that the pool is not heated, rendering it almost unusable to all but the most hardy of eskimoes.

Bonus points to the free access to the spa room; we availed of this twice, and each time it was a private experience, with access to hot tub, jaccuzi, and heated beds, with excellent green tea. Very relaxing and intimate! Im sure the other treatments would have been excellent if this was any indication.

Well worth the excellent rate of £69 a night. Its a 4star small luxury hotel for a reason.

Room Tip: Ask for a westerly facing room to get the sunset /late afternoon beer on the balcony action.

I was sent to the Aressana by my travel agent without any knowledge of Santorini.
First and foremost where ever it was on the Island it would great. Terrifically stylish modern Greek architecture and design - a boutique hotel with pool and spa - so very liveable. Knowledgable and attentive staff and a good kitchen.
But its location just off the cliff and main square of Fira town makes it perfectly located for a Santorini visit. An absolute winner.

Room Tip: Because I was on a package and I am sure got a very good rate I also got a smaller room but nonethel...

Enjoyed this hotel very much even just for 3 nights which is too short. The staff are very hospitable and took us to our room and show us all the facilities. Sweets, fruits and welcome drink were ready at the room too.
The place is clean and nice and the bedding was very comfortable. Quality breakfast and the serene surrounding spa and secluded swimming area more than compensate for the lack of sea or sunset view. Aas it was next to the famous Atlantis hotel which is just a few steps away, if we need to have a look at the seaview and sunset, all it takes was just stepping out of the lobby. Location is top as it is very close to the steps and cable car and main shopping and eating strips. We like the free wifi too.
