“Just too small”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

There are excellent frescos from Akrotiri in there, unfortunately some of the best are in the archeological museum in Athens, but only to see these it was worthwhile to enter the museum. As there is not a museum in Akrotiri and they have such a lot of finds from the site, this museum could be expanded. Really loved the paintings from the ladies chambers. So well preserved!!! The ceramics are wonderful too.

“A must see after visiting Akrotiri”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

This is a fascinating museum mainly but not solely consisting of finds from Akrotiri including some of the fantastic wall paintings brought back from the National Museum in Athens. It's opposite the taxi office (few know where the museum is, everyone knows the other!) Without the museum exhibits the Akrotiri site might have been an anticlimax. Not so now.... Great value too. Closes 1430ish

“Buried treasures”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

A great place to visit if you are interested in the ancient history of Thera. Small museum in fira only €3 each to get in and it is full of treasures. Beautiful frescos, pottery and other artifacts. It includes Information about ancient Thera and the ancient site of Akrotiri. Jewel in the collection is a gold ibex figurine.

“Surprise yourself”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

This is one of the best small museums in the world. It’s hard to believe that civilization was so advanced 5,000 year ago. You could spend hours in the museum, just looking at each individual item. Most of them are very well preserved and makes it easy to take a few photos. The exhibition includes Neolithic pottery, early Cycladic marble figures and metal artefacts, even fossils of plants. I reckon is a good idea to visit the excavations at Akrotiri before going to the museum. The museum is located at the centre of Fira near the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral. The building is new, clean and well air-conditioned. I didn’t want to leave this place. We will certainly visit again.

“Don't miss this if you went to Akrotiri archeological site.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

The displays of pottery are superb, the frescos are wonderful and the golden animal a gem, a history that is not to be missed. During economic stress, there are early closings and if cruise ships are in they may flock here by late morning so come early, 8 to 9 am and beat the crowds.
